Horrendously laughable
Reviewed: 11-16-24
Riddled with conspiracies and deep state innuendo, this book is pure fiction starting with a reasonable scenario that quickly devolves into a Q-anon style crusade by Trump and dead former political leaders (who apparently faked their deaths to reset the global kabal of bad financiers). A laughable rag that takes flight from reality at every chance.
Save your time and your money, get something at least partially realistic.

Not as good as other classics

The narrator did a fantastic job, but this book is tedious to say the least. Granted it was written in 1866, so there are quite a few decades separating the writing style, I was hoping it would be better than it is, but Dostoevsky spends so much time on certain conversations that it makes me wonder if 1866 Russia was just people lecturing one another over nonsense. Not worth a credit or a purchase, but if you get it free as part of audible you’ll only lose the 20 some odd hours it takes for the book to conclude.

Story
When Michael Lewis first met him, Sam Bankman-Fried was the world’s youngest billionaire and crypto’s Gatsby. CEOs, celebrities, and leaders of small countries all vied for his time and cash after he catapulted, practically overnight, onto the Forbes billionaire list. Who was this rumpled guy in cargo shorts and limp white socks, whose eyes twitched across Zoom meetings as he played video games on the side?

Michael Lewis has many good works -this is not one of them

There’s plenty of reviews capturing what this book isn’t. I wholeheartedly agree. It’s a book half finished, you can tell Michael was fooled by this kid too, the first 7 of 11 chapters are an apology/explanation of why SBF is the way he is, I really feel that Michael thought he was interviewing the next Steve Jobs, but when it all collapsed he had to pivot, and rather than do a full rewrite just left the majority of this book as a deep dive on personality rather than an eye opening post mortem. A real disappointment all the way through.

Shockingly Bad

When you buy any sort of book in this genre, there is an understating that it will be a sort of pep rally style of writing, but this one is far and away the least dense, most overhyped book I have ever had the misfortune of trying to listen to. Light on Ideas, and very heavy on self promotion as well as fortune cookie styles of wisdom, if THIS is the type of book you like, unfortunately you're not the type of person who will be able to "change your life in so many amazing, and incredible ways" as the book itself states. Its not just that there is a dearth of information, its that it is repetitive and tedious.
I'm so thankful to Audible that they have a return feature for Premium Plus members, because if I would have been stuck with this unbelievably poorly written infomercial of a book, I would be really, really upset.
Seriously, google the routine, theres literally no information in this book worth paying for, unless you like an author condescending to you about how marvelous their idea is.
