Story
Kendra Michaels is reluctant to help the FBI with the most recent case they've brought to her...until she hears the details: The body was found just blocks away from Kendra's condo. The man was carrying an envelope with Kendra's name on it, and inside was an SD card with what appears to be an innocuous video of a wedding reception. And just one week before the attempted delivery of this mysterious video, the groom in the video was murdered.

Boring and Belligerent
Reviewed: 02-02-20
Iris Johansen's book have always had belligerent female characters. This one is no different. It's tiresome and annoying. Kendra is supposedly having a "thing" with Lynch but she spends all the time shooting him down. Why he puts up with it is beyond me. And he's seldom serious. I can't even figure out if they ARE having a romantic relationship. It's always arguing, with Kendra wearing a huge chip on her shoulder. The female private investigator, Jesse Mercado, is the same. She and Kendra seem to be the only smart people in the book and they sneer at everybody else. As I said, tiresome and annoying. I can't finish it.

Story
Fifteen-year-old Rachael Donahue - abandoned by society, raised in foster homes, and violently unapproachable - has been discovered, dead, at the bottom of a stairwell at Firebird, the secure facility for juvenile offenders in Cleveland. For Maggie and Jack, her death comes with a disturbing twist - the girl may have been involved with a much older man. But Rachael's not the only resident at the center to come to a dead end. Firebird's 10-year-old wild child has overdosed in the infirmary - back-to-back tragedies that appear to be terrible accidents.

On Chapter 14 - Is It Going To Get Better?
Reviewed: 12-04-18
I like the narrator. But so far I'm absolutely bored to tears. I understand the importance of the subject matter....kids in juvenile detention and with mental problems. But I'm on Chapter 14...is this going to get any better?
