Story
Teeny, Sonny Boy and Vic have been swallowed up by the desperation and devastation of the Great Depression, but the trio is buoyed by the fantastical tales Teeny weaves around campfires in hobo jungles and migrant camps, including the story of the raffle baby. As the three navigate the ravages of poverty and prejudices, they form a family bond as strong as the forces against them. But when a solemn pact fails to protect them, their lives are forever changed. And Sonny Boy is left to tell their story, and his own.

Very good story!
Reviewed: 02-17-25
I thought the author did a really good job of describing the circumstances surrounding the defeat of Bataan with a very descriptive story line. The only distraction was the repeated misprounciation of the word "corpsman". The narrator kept saying "CorPsman", The 'P' is silent. The English teacher in me kept wanting to correct the narrator. Other than that minor blip, well done!

Story
With courage, grace, and powerful insight, bestselling author Kristin Hannah captures the epic panorama of World War II and illuminates an intimate part of history seldom seen: the women's war. The Nightingale tells the stories of two sisters, separated by years and experience, by ideals, passion and circumstance, each embarking on her own dangerous path toward survival, love, and freedom in German-occupied, war-torn France—a heartbreakingly beautiful novel that celebrates the resilience of the human spirit and the durability of women. It is a novel for everyone, a novel for a lifetime.

If you don't know history, you're bound to repeat t it. This story describes the efforts of every day French in trying to survive the evils perpetrated on them by occupying Nazis. Their efforts were so heroic. I'm not sure I would have had the metal to be as strong and I pray I don't have to ever find out. Take heed to stop this from ever happening again .

Story
It has been two years since the events in Shantaram, and since Lin lost two people he had come to love: his father figure, Khaderbhai, and his soul mate, Karla, married to a handsome Indian media tycoon. Lin returns from a smuggling trip to a city that seems to have changed too much, too soon. Many of his old friends are long gone, the new mafia leadership has become entangled in increasingly violent and dangerous intrigues, and a fabled holy man challenges everything that Lin thought he'd learned about love and life.

I love how this book continues to immerse the reader in the character's lives from the first novel, Shantaram. I hope that the author continues to write and explore characters across India in future novels, but especially Bombay. The descriptions and respect for cultural diversities in his novels is really a gift to the reader!

I love how she sneaked in the titles of her other books (YES! I noticed because I've read them all). I'm off to start the Time Police series to wait not-so-patienly for the next St. Mary's book. Thank you Zara and Jodi for bringing us such adveture and humor!

Story
It's long been known that if a thing can go wrong, it will. With knobs on, usually. Disasters start to pile up. A new colleague with no respect for the past and a great deal to prove. Historians lost in time. And - worst of all - Rosie Lee on her very first jump. Then there's the small matter of Max's dishonourable discharge. From Tudor England to the Tower of Babel - it's all going horribly wrong. Jobless and homeless, Max receives an offer she can't refuse. Another time, another place. A refuge, perhaps. She's got that wrong, too.
