Story
While it may not occur to us on a daily basis, there is a widespread cultural tendency toward quick decisions and quick action. Though the root cause is by no means malicious, we have begun to reward speed over quality, and the negative effects suffered in both our personal and professional lives are potentially catastrophic. Best-selling author and Chief Envisioner Dan Pontefract offers the solution to this predicament with what he coins "Open Thinking".

Reviewed: 12-06-18
It is hard for Business Leaders to free up time from busy calendars for anything but the pressures of running their Operations. Dan effectively conveys the value of taking time out to think.
The author has done a lot of research and has many great examples from Organizations and Business Executives. And he includes a moving story about his daughter Claire who demonstrates Open Thinking.
Open to Think ‘is about the never-ending and cyclical journey of dreaming, deciding, and doing.’
A valuable read for any busy Business Executive.

An Important Insight for Career & Work Fulfullment

Dan offers up some great insights, messages and stories to help us think about our purpose in the career we choose and the work we do to bring us a sense of joy and well being in our lives. I enjoyed Dan’s analogies and examples throughout this book in helping me reflect on my career that included a variety of different roles and jobs, my level of engagement in those jobs, my work relationships and alignment to the corporate culture, and dedication in ensuring my actions and results benefited our customers, our team and our shareholders. I think the guidance in this book for finding and discovering the ‘sweet spot’ applies no matter where you are in your life journey – whether you are new to the workforce, just out of school, college or university, seasoned in the work force and/or retired and seeking new opportunities that open up new doors of interest and ‘purpose’.

Story
Flat Army arms you with powerful tools for overcoming resistance to change and creating a culture of collaboration, engagement, and employee empowerment. Your people are your most valuable asset, and if you want them to excel (and your profits to soar), you'll need to abandon your traditional command-and-control management style and adopt a collaborative, open leadership approach - one that engages and empowers your people. While this isn't a particularly new idea, many leaders, while they may pay lip service to it, don't really understand what it means.

Great Insights for Collaborative Leadership
Reviewed: 09-29-17
Dan’s sharing of collaborative and participative leadership is indeed what Dan stands for as an active leader inside and outside of TELUS. Dan walks the talk! I have experienced this having been on Dan’s team at TELUS for 5 years. Dan was truly a different type of leader and it was refreshing to see how Dan treated all members of our team as equals. He encouraged us to participate with our voice, develop our strengths and demonstrate what we brought to the team through our actions and results. Collaboration was key to our team’s success. Flat Army is a very good read, well researched with many great examples and analogies to help all team members’ work together as one team.
