Good ideas restricted by a limited viewpoint
Reviewed: 02-20-25
I understand and respect “I am that I am”. I am distrustful of the numerous references to concepts that are religious and not as claimed “spiritual”. After listening once, I chose to listen again. At some point, the philosophy became dogmatic Christian doctrine about God instead of the liberating concept of non-duality. Just the same old stuff dressed in different clothing.

Since birth, you were spoon-fed ideas, beliefs, and routines that program you into the same default path as everyone else. This leads to the same quality of life as everyone else. It’s no wonder why most people feel anxious, overwhelmed, and have a cloud of meaninglessness hovering over their heads at all times. Focus is the cure.

Story
Beverly Underwood and her arch enemy, Lula Dean, live in the tiny town of Troy, Georgia, where they were born and raised. Now Beverly is on the school board, and Lula has become a local celebrity by embarking on mission to rid the public libraries of all inappropriate books—none of which she’s actually read. To replace the “pornographic” books she’s challenged at the local public library, Lula starts her own lending library in front of her home: a cute wooden hutch with glass doors and neat rows of the worthy literature that she’s sure the town’s readers need.

Existential wandering.
Reviewed: 10-02-24
Great author who makes me think of a modern Jane Austen as she is a piquant observer of today’s culture. This book wanders into some existential angst that would better serve the reader if Ms Moriarity came at it more directly. She’s capable of that. Not sure why it did not happen here.

Story
For centuries, mariners have spun tales of gargantuan waves, 100-feet high or taller. Until recently scientists dismissed these stories - waves that high would seem to violate the laws of physics. But in the past few decades, as a startling number of ships vanished and new evidence has emerged, oceanographers realized something scary was brewing in the planet’s waters. They found their proof in February 2000, when a British research vessel was trapped in a vortex of impossibly mammoth waves in the North Sea - including several that approached 100 feet.

Narrator missing the target/Author too
Reviewed: 10-02-24
Narrator does not pronounce words correctly and it happens often. And the author is subtly sensational for no apparent reason. We are information starved about the ocean. If you want to understand the ocean, look into “Amphibious Soul”.

Story
Authors June Hayward and Athena Liu were supposed to be twin rising stars: same year at Yale, same debut year in publishing. But Athena’s a cross-genre literary darling, and June didn’t even get a paperback release. Nobody wants stories about basic white girls, June thinks. So when June witnesses Athena’s death in a freak accident, she acts on impulse: she steals Athena’s just-finished masterpiece, an experimental novel about the unsung contributions of Chinese laborers to the British and French war efforts during World War I.
