I loved this story. In fact, it was just too short for me and I could have listened to many more episodes. I remember watching the '84 marathon while I was still in high school, and dreaming of being in the Olympics. Of course that never happened, but hearing the history behind how the women's marathon came to be was really great as I don't remember any of this in the '80's. I think I was just a young kid who thought a woman running the marathon was normal! But I definitely remember Joan Benoit winning and thinking just how cool this all was. Excellent podcast to re-live all of that.

Story
Matt Fitzgerald has already made a name for himself in the endurance-sport community with books like 80/20 Running, How Bad Do You Want It?, and Iron War. He is an accomplished amateur runner, but if he follows the training, nutrition, and lifestyle of an elite runner, just how fast could he go? He is approaching his mid-40s, so the time to do this is now. He at last has the financial means to do nothing but train.

I don't know much about crossfit, but this was a good listen. And I loved the narrator! The more you know about crossfit, the more I think you'll enjoy this book. Mostly because she talks about a lot of the workouts, which would be amazing if I understood more about them! But overall, I love books about highly motivated sports types, and this fit the bill!

Story
In 2017, world-class ultrarunner Hillary Allen was at the top of her sport - and it felt like she was running on top of the world as she competed in Norway's Tromsø Skyrace. Allen was nearly halfway through the 50-kilometer race when she fell 150 feet off an exposed ridge, fracturing her back and breaking multiple ribs, both feet, and both of her lower arms. Beginning with the dramatic story of her accident and rescue, Out and Back: A Runner's Story of Survival Against All Odds recounts Allen's fight to return to the life she loves.

Story
The 1989 Ironman World Championship was the greatest race ever in endurance sports. In a spectacular duel that became known as the Iron War, the world's two strongest athletes raced side by side at world-record pace for a grueling 139 miles. Driven by one of the fiercest rivalries in triathlon, Dave Scott and Mark Allen raced shoulder to shoulder through Ironman’s 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike race, and 26.2-mile marathon. After 8 punishing hours, both men would demolish the previous record - and cross the finish line a mere 58 seconds apart.

Good stories, not great narration
Reviewed: 08-01-21
I'd had this book in my Amazon wish list for years before buying it as an audible book. Perhaps I was let down because I had over anticipated the greatness of this book. Having grown up watching triathalon on Wide World of Sports, i knew the rivalry between Dave Scott and Mark Allen and couldn't wait to listen to the deeper stories of their lives. And the stories were by and large good. I just wish the narrator had been a little better. He wasn't horrible, he just wasn't great. More odd if I had to categorize him. I probably would have enjoyed this more had I read the book, which is what I recommend if you really want to enjoy these triathalon stories.
