Story
In this groundbreaking history of the modern American metropolis, Richard Rothstein explodes the myth that America's cities came to be racially divided through de facto segregation - that is, through individual prejudices, income differences, or the actions of private institutions like banks and real estate agencies. Rather, he incontrovertibly makes clear that it was de jure segregation - the laws and policy decisions passed by local, state, and federal governments - that actually promoted the discriminatory patterns that continue to this day.

This book is extremely repetitive. Some of the content was interesting but most of it reads like a textbook.

Story
When Stephanie Land set out to write her memoir Maid, she never could have imagined what was to come. Handpicked by President Barack Obama as one of the best books of 2019, he called it an “unflinching look at America’s class divide…and a reminder of the dignity of all work.” Later, it was adapted into the hit Netflix series Maid, which was viewed by sixty-seven million households and was Netflix’s fourth most-watched show in 2021, garnering three Primetime Emmy Award nominations. Stephanie’s escape out of poverty and abuse in search of a better life inspired millions.

Predictable. Repetitive Story. Mostly comes off as a boo-hop whining story.

A story about complaining, promiscuousness and a love/hate relationship of a single mom and wanted(ish) daughter. I was hoping for more of a powerful story about overcoming adversity. What I got was a story about excuses and thinly vailed guilt of a single mom who consistently made bad bad choices.

Story
In this “vital, necessary, and beautiful book” (Michael Eric Dyson), antiracist educator Robin DiAngelo deftly illuminates the phenomenon of white fragility and “allows us to understand racism as a practice not restricted to 'bad people'" (Claudia Rankine). Referring to the defensive moves white people make when challenged racially, white fragility is characterized by emotions such as anger, fear, and guilt and by behaviors including argumentation and silence. These behaviors, in turn, function to reinstate white racial equilibrium and prevent meaningful cross-racial dialogue.

None sense to the highest degree

This book displays many inaccurate facts and the conclusions drawn are insane, insulting and, funny enough, racist.
The theme of the book is everyone is racist because the author redefines racism as something innate to anyone who is not a POC. Also if you disagree with any of her accusations or conclusions then you are being racist or fragile or both. This is a great way to eliminate debate or conversation; if you disagree with me then ur racist and you need to check yourself. Only the author can tell you who and how you’re a being racist lol.
The book also looks at disparate outcomes as proof that racism is all around us in the ether. If you offer up or discuss any alternative reason for a disparate outcome then you are being racist and so on and on the book goes.
The only specific examples of racism that are given are red lining and other discriminatory practices from the Jim Crow era that have since been deemed illegal. The book even states that today’s “implicit” racism is WORSE than the Jim Crow era which insanity.
Anyway this was a very long book in that it repeated the same BS over and over. Multiple times I wanted to stop listening to it but decided I needed to just finish it like a torturous bout of cardio.

Story
In this award-winning Audible Studios production, Trevor Noah tells his wild coming-of-age tale during the twilight of apartheid in South Africa. It’s a story that begins with his mother throwing him from a moving van to save him from a potentially fatal dispute with gangsters, then follows the budding comedian’s path to self-discovery through episodes both poignant and comical.

I enjoyed Trevor’s performance reading the book. Some parts of story were entertaining but I struggled to finish it. Especially with the foreshadowing often used for no good reason.

Story
Golda Meir was a world figure unlike any other. Born in tsarist Russia in 1898, she immigrated to America in 1906 and grew up in Milwaukee, where from her earliest years she displayed the political consciousness and organizational skills that would eventually catapult her into the inner circles of Israel's founding generation. Moving to mandatory Palestine in 1921 with her husband, the passionate socialist joined a kibbutz but soon left and was hired at a public works office by the man who would become the great love of her life.

Long winded!!
Reviewed: 05-06-20
I have a lot of interest in Israel history and military and culture. After listening to this I have realized I am much less interested in the politics side of things. This books is very long winded. I think it would have definitely been expedited 20-30%. Some sections were downright painful and then I started day dreaming. If you really love Israel early politics and understanding the various groups that coalesced and rivaled to create our modern parties in Israel than you may enjoy this more than I did.

Story
Instead of being trained to fight, the few soldiers each year selected for Talpiot are taught how to think. In order to join this unit they have to commit to being in the army for 10 years, rather than the three years a normal soldier serves. Talpiots are taught advanced level physics, math, and computer science as they train with soldiers from every other branch of the IDF. The result: young men and women become research and development machines.

This was a decent book. I didn’t love it but listened to the whole thing. About half way through I had gotten the gist. After that it was a repeat of how topiat grads created one great company after another. Worth a read but not one of my favorites.

Story
In 2011, a 26-year-old libertarian programmer named Ross Ulbricht launched the ultimate free market: the Silk Road, a clandestine website hosted on the Dark Web where anyone could trade anything - drugs, hacking software, forged passports, counterfeit cash, poisons - free of the government's watchful eye. It wasn't long before the media got wind of the new website where anyone - not just teenagers and weed dealers but terrorists and black hat hackers - could buy and sell contraband detection-free.
