No substance

I really wanted to like this series but I just can’t get there. Book 1 wasn’t bad but This book was composed of lengthy and detailed fighting scenes but very little substance or plot. The narrator had a good tone to his voice but the editing could have been better to remove gasps for air.

Best Audible book yet!

This was one of the best novels that I have ever read and wasn’t expecting the audio book to be as good. John Lee’s narration brought it to life. He is an amazing storyteller!

Story
For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand.

A wonderful story, one of the best recent novels.

The story is captivating and beautifully written. I was pulled in from the very beginning however I wish I had read this book instead of listened to it. I found the narrator very distracting by her odd inflections and pronunciations when she was narrating. I was a third of the way into the book before I could concentrate on the story more than the narration. The main character's voice remained childish as she became a strong adult character.
