Very engaging story put together from numerous true events. Excellent narration. I wish the author had more stories set in Vietnam.

Story
From the author of Apocalyptic Planet, an unsparing, vivid, revelatory travelogue through prehistory that traces the arrival of the First People in North America 20,000 years ago and the artifacts that enable us to imagine their lives and fates. This book upends our notions of where these people came from and who they were.

Intriguing journey to a lost world

I have enjoyed Craig Childs work for years. This book is a mix of archaeology and ideas of what life was like for the first humans to enter North America. He brings contagious enthusiasm to his writing and makes for an enjoyable listen.

Story
In September 1960, John Steinbeck and his poodle, Charley, embarked on a journey across America, from small towns to growing cities to glorious wilderness oases. Travels with Charley is animated by Steinbeck’s attention to the specific details of the natural world and his sense of how the lives of people are intimately connected to the rhythms of nature—to weather, geography, the cycles of the seasons. His keen ear for the transactions among people is evident, too, as he records the interests and obsessions that preoccupy the Americans he encounters along the way.

A classic travelogue from my favorite American author. Gary Sinese (sp?) does an amazing job narrating this classic.

An incredible story! I only wish the book followed up on the survivors years later.
