Story
The Bertram family of Mansfield Park is forced to retrench and retreat to Purvis Lodge when the baronet’s heir, Tom Bertram, bankrupts the family with his extravagant spending and expensive debauchery. Oblivious to their ruin, their new neighbor Mrs. Bennet finds an agreeable friend in the indolent Lady Bertram, and hastily forms designs on the two Bertram sons for her daughters.

A funny and charming mash-up
Reviewed: 04-11-25
This wonderfully entertaining story is a mash-up of Pride and Prejudice with Mansfield Park (with some characters from Lady Susan also thrown into the mix). Although it's 17 hours long, it does not drag, but rather skips merrily along. In fact, listening to this story, with its lively narration from Benjamin Fife, helped me through a difficult patch. One thing that was fun for me was that with such a large group of characters, I didn't know right away who was going to end up with who (except Darcy and Elizabeth, of course). I smiled and laughed aloud constantly, and I will definitely be listening again. I highly recommend this funny, charming, low-angst story. (Side note to author Jayne Bamber, if she reads this: I caught your nod to The Importance of Being Earnest in the scene with the buttered muffins! Well done!)
