Story
Veteran flight instructor and educator Mike Thompson applies principles of educational psychology to the FAA-H-8083-9A Aviation Instructor’s Handbook. Using simple, down-to-earth language, Thompson examines how to enable genuine teaching by developing the student-instructor relationship. Thompson applies his knowledge of how people really learn and how to build effective student-teacher relationships to provide flight instructors with skills they can use to encourage deep and advanced learning.

Some good content, incredibly poor delivery

If I was having a conversation with the author, it would get to the point that I would say “if you use the phrase telling is not teaching one more time, I’m going to punch you in the face.” For someone with a large enough ego to think they have something useful to say about teaching, they should have the common sense to not beat their catchphrase to death and to the point that it distracts from their central ideas. It’s like they were trying to turn a 1 page essay into a 3 page essay by sprinkling in a single phrase. I’m not even finished with the book and I’m not sure that I can.
