Second Chance Forced Proximity with great subplots
Reviewed: 12-18-23
Great second chance romance with fun family drama from the heroine's siblings (& less so her parents). A fun holiday read. Touching moments with sympathetic characters without being too sappy. Though the hero's backstory is a bit much. Also, it's hard to distinguish when they've jumped into and out of flashbacks, but that's not too bad.

Story
After catching her husband in a compromising position, Finley Granger finds herself in a new hell: reentering the dating world. When she moves in with her grandmother, her great-aunt, and their best friend, Finley finds herself surrounded by a trio of well-meaning yet bumbling matchmakers. In spite of their efforts, Finley only has eyes for one person, and that’s Zeke Masters - the 6’4”, impossibly built, and ridiculously good-looking new man in town. Along with her nether regions, Finley’s journalistic spidey-senses tingle as to why he’s on sabbatical from Seattle.

Great premise, fun set up. Hard to tell if the problems are just narration or narration and story development. Heroine is likable, her grandmother and the ladies are a hoot. It's difficult to believe a woman would job switch like this one does, but given other major life upheavals she faced that's easy to overlook. The hero is poorly developed and the narration takes the sexy out of the sexy times in the book. It's a relatively quick, non-angsty read. But, not of the same caliber as the preceding book in the series.

Love Penny Reid, but
Reviewed: 02-11-23
This is a really fun listen, but it seems to have less of the fun banter and character development I love best about Penny Reid than her books typically include. The falling in love bit is very fast here and the rest is the characters getting in their own way and over themselves on their own. And it even lacks a bit of the male lead's development which is referenced but not shown at all.

Story
Margot Cooper doesn’t do relationships. She tried and it blew up in her face, so she’ll stick with casual hookups, thank you very much. But now her entire crew has found ""the one"" and she’s beginning to feel like a fifth wheel. And then fate (the heartless bitch) intervenes. While touring a wedding venue with her engaged friends, Margot comes face-to-face with Olivia Grant—her childhood friend, her first love, her first… well, everything. It’s been ten years, but the moment they lock eyes, Margot’s cold, dead heart thumps in her chest.

I hoped for more
Reviewed: 12-05-22
I enjoyed the first two books in the series more. I really love Margot and was so excited for her to be the lead character in this book. It was fine. But, I had really hoped for more. I lost sympathy for Olivia at somepoint and a book with a lot of potential became just ok. By the end, I just didn't care about the couple and thought they would be better without each other.

Life doesn’t always pan out as you expect. When it explodes in my face, literally, an old friend offers me a place to heal and a job renovating the kitchen of Burlington’s coolest wine bar. V&V is a chill fest. Living above it should be a blast. But I’m not built to be a social butterfly. Not anymore. I’m a damaged man. And I’m not its target clientele. At least, I think I’m not until I come face-to-face with the most beautiful human I’ve ever seen.

I wanted to love this book. It's hard to tell if it's the narrators or the story, but it took a bit to get used to listening to this. Tim Paige has done better in other books I've heard from him. The other narrator is new to me and his accent is not what I expected. By midway, I had adjusted to combo of these narrators and this author, but I never got as invested as I'd hoped.

In Boyfriend Material, Luc and Oliver met, pretended to fall in love, fell in love for real, dealt with heartbreak and disappointment and family and friends...and somehow figured out a way to make it work. Now it seems like everyone around them is getting married, and Luc's feeling the social pressure to propose. But it'll take more than four weddings, a funeral, and a bowl full of special curry to get these two from "I don't know what I'm doing" to "I do". Good thing Oliver is such perfect Husband Material.

I’m at the height of my athletic career. Yet my arrogant brother is always trying to recruit me into the family business: a global security company so secretive that I don’t even know its name. Pass, thanks. I don’t need a summer job. But the jerk ambushes me with a damsel in distress. That damsel is Alex, the competitive, sassy girl I knew when we were kids. Now she’s a drop-dead gorgeous woman in deep trouble. So guess who’s on a flight to Hawaii?

Heroine's career storyline left hanging
Reviewed: 07-18-22
I really enjoy Sarina Bowen's romance and the narrators were awesome, but this left SO MANY loose ends in the suspense/career story line and the next book in the series doesn't appear to connect at all to these characters or storyline based upon the description. It's so frustrating to see a book wind up with the heroine's career in crisis and not even an attempt to resolve it.
