Excellent Recap!
Reviewed: 11-29-23
I regretted not doing a re-read before starting The Fragile Threads of Power and stumbled upon this read along- it was exactly the refresher I needed and it was a delight to revisit this series with the author! Jumping back in to Fragile Threads now and can’t wait to see what happens!

Story
Dr. Briana Ortiz’s life is seriously flatlining. Her divorce is just about finalized, her brother’s running out of time to find a kidney donor, and that promotion she wants? Oh, that’s probably going to the new man-doctor who’s already registering eighty-friggin’-seven on Briana’s “pain in my ass” scale. But just when all systems are set to hate, Dr. Jacob Maddox completely flips the game . . . by sending Briana a letter. And it’s a really good letter. Like the kind that proves that Jacob isn’t actually Satan.

Story
Harriet and Wyn have been the perfect couple since they met in college—they go together like salt and pepper, honey and tea, lobster and rolls. Except, now—for reasons they’re still not discussing—they don’t. They broke up five months ago. And still haven’t told their best friends.

Emily Henry Does It Again
Reviewed: 05-21-23
Emily Henry has written some of my favorite books from the last few years- Beach Read, People We Meet On Vacation, Book Lovers, and now, Happy Place. They’re categorized as contemporary romance but they’re so much more- yes there is romance and some spice, but they’re really about relationships- romantic, familial, friendship and working through relatable challenges. She’s so great at creating realisticly imperfect and likable characters. Whenever I find out Emily Henry is writing a new book, I put the release date in my calendar- they’re always worth the wait and are books I like to revisit.
*I’ve seen some reviews where people complain about the miscommunication trope, but as someone who grew up thinking any disagreement was the end of the world, let me tell you- this may be the best portrayal of what that feels like.
*Romance is in there but not really the central focus. If you like your romantic-ish books spice free (no shame), these books probably aren’t for you.

Story
Over the course of two weeks, everything in Beartown will change. Two years have passed since the events that no one wants to think about. Everyone has tried to move on, but there’s something about this place that prevents it. The destruction caused by a ferocious late-summer storm reignites the old rivalry between Beartown and the neighboring town of Hed, a rivalry which has always been fought through their ice hockey teams.

This whole series is wonderful. Fredrik Backman writes about people in a way that fills your heart, breaks it and fills it again.

American Alexandra Freemar isn't about to put up with any flak from the uptight - albeit gorgeous - Scotland Yard inspector who accuses her of breaking and entering. She doesn't have time. She has two months in London to write the perfect romance novel - two months to prove that she can succeed as an author. Luckily, reserved Englishmen are not her cup of tea. Yet....

So much of the book was spent detailing how insufferable Alix is and the ending was way too rushed without her making a real effort to apologize to all of the people she mistreated. Instead of enjoying a book I knew was headed toward a HEA, I spent the last half wishing Alix would get hit by a bus.
