Story
The first thing on our list of Save Miles from the Dark Magic That Might Be Making Him Do Ridiculous Things is to destroy the ominous book that's snagging my attention. But what I don't expect is to be dragged into the book filled with dark mysteries that leaves me with more questions and a lack of pants. But it's nothing that Havoc and I can't handle.

Young Emmett Farmer is working in the fields when a strange letter arrives summoning him away from his family. He is to begin an apprenticeship as a bookbinder - a vocation that arouses fear, superstition, and prejudice among their small community, but one neither he nor his parents can afford to refuse. Story
His dad was the town troublemaker, and I was the son of a cop. We couldn't have been more different, yet we were best friends, had each other's backs, and kept each other's secrets. "What you are, I am," we always said. Then one night irrevocably changed our lives forever. It's 10 years before I see Gage again, and instantly I can tell he's not the same boy I fell in love with. We're both haunted and hardened by the memory of that night - of everything we did and saw.

Disconnect

I had previously read this book and really enjoyed the story. I was excited to be able to listen to it on audible and was very disappointed by the quality of the narration. There are several portions where sentences repeat. The narrator mispronounces many words like Hospice, Sachet, Anathema, Incredulous and Auspice to name a few. The narration is very fast and this really detracts from many key components of the story and really inhibits character development. In essence this is a much better read than listen.
