Story
1989, Lamesa, Texas. A small west Texas town driven by oil and cotton—and a place where everyone knows everyone else’s business. So it goes for Tolly Driver, a good kid with more potential than application, seventeen, and about to be cursed to kill for revenge. Here Stephen Graham Jones explores the Texas he grew up in, and shared sense of unfairness of being on the outside through the slasher horror Jones loves, but from the perspective of the killer, Tolly, writing his own autobiography. Find yourself rooting for a killer in this summer teen movie of a novel gone full blood-curdling tragic.

I feel like people either love SGJ or have a hard time with the literary devices that he uses. I, for one, think that this was brilliantly done and brilliantly narrated. A must read for any SGJ reader

Story
Colin Novak is the big man on campus. Huge—if the rumors are to be believed. Nearly every girl at Davidson University has had a ride on him...everyone, except me. Which is fine. This frat boy may be irritatingly hot, all carved muscle with a deceptively wholesome smile, but that’s irrelevant. He’s a Sig. When I catch his fraternity cheating at the Greek Week tournament, he denies it—causing our rivalry between houses to escalate. Colin and I may have started the mud fight, but it grows into an all-out war and ends with us expelled from our houses. Now I’m homeless, and it’s all his fault.

The Velkwood Vicinity was the topic of occult theorists, tabloid one-hour documentaries, and even some pseudo-scientific investigations as the block of homes disappeared behind a near-impenetrable veil that only three survivors could enter—and only one has in the past twenty years, until now.

Story
He was the talented bad boy everyone wanted. I was the irrelevant geek everyone hated. He was the sun...drawing all of us in. I was a black hole...taking up space. He was destined to be a star. I was destined to remain an insignificant no one. Until he made me believe I was special...and then he destroyed me. I never thought I'd see Phoenix Walker again after he broke my heart, but fate had other plans. One tour. Eight weeks. Forty shows. Countless opportunities to make him pay. The world thought he was a god...but I know the truth.

Fun Story

This story is entertaining. And I can really only recommend it if you’re okay with incredibly toxic relationships. Cause this book has them in spades. But I enjoyed the story.
Teddy is one of my favorite narrators. I’m not sure if he is how I imagined Phoenix to sound. But he still did a great job. The female narrator however made me abandon the audiobook for reading it instead. Her inflections are so distracting. And she holds certain vowels and end syllables for a beat too long. I may or may not have thrown my airpods at one point. Just saying.

Story
Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general—also known as her tough-as-talons mother—has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders. But when you’re smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away...because dragons don’t bond to “fragile” humans. They incinerate them.

Great story, especially as an intro into high fantasy
Reviewed: 11-13-23
The story is well written. It feels a bit NA level. But it is certainly engaging. A few parts felt predictable and I hope that we see some twists or change in characters in the coming books.
I thought that the narrator rerecorded chapters where she was sick. I could still hear the congestion, albeit less, in some chapters. I was not fond of her Tarin voice either. I will be reading the second book and not listening.

One word. Stay. It was all he had to do. Instead, he got on that bus and took my heart with him. That was 17 years ago. I moved on. Marriage. Kids. White picket fence. Everything I ever wanted, but my husband betrayed me and I was left once again.

Story
It was only supposed to be a marriage of convenience. Let me just say, this whole part-time lover thing was her idea. I’d have gone all in from the start, but hey, when a gorgeous, brilliant woman invites you into her bed, and only her bed...well, I said yes. But then, one hysterical phone call from my brother later, begging me to find myself a wife so grandfather’s business stays in the family, and I need a promotion with Elise. Turns out a full-time husband suits her needs too, and a temporary marriage of convenience ought to do the trick, until we can simply untie the knot....

Great Narration Bland Story
Reviewed: 03-26-23
This had a lot of potential story wise. But it somehow fell flat. Everything felt status quo. The narration was worlds better than the first book of the series. But I don’t find anything compelling between the main characters (a problem I’ve found in all 3 of the books I’ve tried by this author)

Zachary Webber did it again. This was one of his better performances in my opinion.
CJ Bloom surprised me. Usually, I’m ok with her. But she was awful in this. Sorry not sorry. Her voice for Mira’s mom really got to me. We had a weekend cabin in Tahoe growing up. People from Tahoe. Or anywhere really in The Sierras don’t sound like hillbillies from the south. Please. It’s weird.
I’m also starting to get tired of the overdramatics in this series. Can we have a romance story without someone almost getting killed by this subplot. It’s ridiculous at this point

I never should’ve fallen back in love with Quinn. I always knew we wouldn’t make it. And to make matters worse, not only did I lose my soulmate - I lost myself as well. Everything was stripped away, leaving me bare and unable to breathe. No one told me it could hurt this much. I was unprepared for this level of agony from the horrible weight of grief. I planned to love him infinitely. But what is infinity, when love always ends?

The story itself felt like it could have been done in one book. There was a lot of circular repetition of the feelings. At some point, character building got in the way of storytelling.
The narrators were great. Definitely some of my favorites

Story
Being the younger sister of a Wind Dragons MC member isn't as great as you'd think it would be. I can't escape the details of my brother's exploits. No one tells me anything. Men who know who I am tend to stay away from me. And worst of all: The members of the MC are off-limits. When Arrow catches my eye, I make it my mission to make him happy again. When I fall head over heels in love with him, I just hope he will be there to catch me. And that my brother doesn't kill him....

This is the second book of The Wind Dragon MC series. I enjoyed this one a lot more than the first.
Arrow is in a hell of his own making. Ana is Rake’s mouthy little sister. I found her to be enjoyable. She doesn’t let people tell her what to do, and it certainly causes her (and Arrow) some trouble. She owns her bad choices just as much as she owns her feelings. It makes her character more believable.
Eva and Sebastian deliver an impeccable narration. They make a great duo.
Overall, an enjoyable book.
