Story
Robert Iger became CEO of The Walt Disney Company in 2005, during a difficult time. Competition was more intense than ever, and technology was changing faster than at any time in the company’s history. His vision came down to three clear ideas: Recommit to the concept that quality matters, embrace technology instead of fighting it, and think bigger - think global - and turn Disney into a stronger brand in international markets.

Wow- what a guy!

This was a surprisingly enjoyable book! It was an inspiring and insightful journey through one of the most iconic careers in media and entertainment.... I especially loved how the book traced his humble beginnings in New York to his remarkable rise through ABC and eventually to the top of The Walt Disney Company. What stood out most to me was Iger’s ability to navigate relationships with strong, sometimes intimidating personalities—his partnership and eventual friendship with Steve Jobs was particularly touching. His humility, emotional intelligence, and clear leadership principles make this a must-read for any aspiring CEO—or any current one looking to lead with integrity and vision.

This is an excellent story but the narrator was annoying at times for me. She does a great job at some of the characters voices but the narration is just- meh. I LOVED the storyline however - it kept me on the edge of my seat and I finished this book in 3 days.

Sara Marsala barely knows who she is anymore after the failure of her business and marriage. On top of that, her beloved great-aunt Rosie passes away, leaving Sara bereft with grief. But Aunt Rosie’s death also opens an escape from her life and a window into the past by way of a plane ticket to Sicily, a deed to a possibly valuable plot of land, and a bombshell family secret. Rosie believes Sara’s great-grandmother Serafina, the family matriarch who was left behind while her husband worked in America, didn’t die of illness as family lore has it . . . she was murdered.

Kristin Hannah Does it Again!
Reviewed: 04-08-24
Kristen Hannah does it again. This book was probably one of the top two best books I’ve ever read. It was so unbelievably moving in such a cohesive way- I was just in awe the whole time thinking how does Kristen Hannah do this? How is she able to pull at our heartstrings and keep us on the edge of our seat and tell this beautiful story so thoroughly? I don’t know. The last few chapters of the book had me sobbing and on the edge of my seat. But the whole time- I felt like I was there- in Vietnam- the comrades amongst the soldiers and nurses, the music of the generation, the passion, the fear- and then all that came after. This books makes you feel like you were there. I listened to the audio book which was done beautifully by the amazing Julia Whalen. She does such a superb job on all of Kristen’s books. Really, I’m almost at a loss for words about this book- all I can say is that I’d recommend this book to everyone!!

Story
I’ve been in this life for fifty years, been trying to work out its riddle for forty-two, and been keeping diaries of clues to that riddle for the last thirty-five. Notes about successes and failures, joys and sorrows, things that made me marvel, and things that made me laugh out loud. How to be fair. How to have less stress. How to have fun. How to hurt people less. How to get hurt less. How to be a good man. How to have meaning in life. How to be more me. Recently, I worked up the courage to sit down with those diaries.

This book was wonderful. Matthew is an incredible storyteller- the sound of his voice is melodic and soothing. There are parts of the book that are very touching and true and other parts that are hilarious-I found myself laughing out loud (lucky the parakeet story) to so many of his experiences. I like the light hearted-ness of the book. He doesn’t take himself too seriously and the people who reviewed this book so negatively obviously missed that. This book is about how Matthew is playing the game of life and winning- through taking risks, prayer, thoughtfulness, love, humor and much more. Great job Matthew!! Xo

I fell in love with every single character in this book at some point- it’s charming, funny, heartbreaking, romantic and powerful, I especially loved the authors notes at the end where she explains why she wrote the book. Really respected her a lot more for sharing this painful journey of her family in this way.

Interesting but too long
Reviewed: 01-09-23
The story of Frank Llyod Wright and Mayma was very interesting but this book carried on way too long and became really boring in the middle. The author could have cut down on the time they spent in Europe and Japan a whole lot. The ending was brutal, although a true story so I guess there’s no getting around it. I wouldn’t really recommend this to friends unless they are super interested in FLW or his life outside his work. He seemed like a pretty bad guy.

Junius Booth—breadwinner, celebrated Shakespearean actor, and master of the house in more ways than one—is at once a mesmerizing talent and a man of terrifying instability. Among the most celebrated and beloved novels of 2021, Anthony Doerr’s gorgeous third novel is a triumph of imagination and compassion, a soaring story about children on the cusp of adulthood in worlds in peril, who find resilience, hope—and a book. In Cloud Cuckoo Land, Doerr has created a magnificent tapestry of times and places that reflects our vast interconnectedness—with other species, with each other, with those who lived before us, and with those who will be here after we’re gone.

I would recommend and I’m super picky .
