話してくれたのはベテランの山田先生だ。遡ること40年前、いくつもある校舎棟の三十号館の五階の研究室に詰めていたころ、当時の助手の若くはつらつとした女性が、時折何か言いたげなそぶりを見せては、諦めて口をつぐむような仕草を数年繰り返していたという。
そして、ある時ついに彼女は「先生、私実は……」と理由を話してくれた。どうやら、霊が見えるという。
心当たりのあった山田先生は似顔絵を描いて見せると助手は「この人です！」それは山田先生の同期で早逝した川村さんであった。
