 M先生は思いもよらずあとからあとから湧いてくるような不思議な話の数珠つなぎに、まるで記者にでもなったかのように取材を繰り返すようになり、城谷に話を送ろうと集めたエピソードをまとめ上げた。
ところがいざまとめた話を読み返していくとどうも思ったほどに恐ろしくなかった。何度も推敲を試みたが、結局納得がいかずにせっかくまとめた話を送ることを断念してしまった。
