内容紹介
それは「黒い魔物」という、得体のしれない化け物の噂だ。
ある時は人気のない路地裏に。またある時は隅田川の真ん中に。
魔物は真っ黒な姿に白い歯を浮かべ、ケラケラと笑って消えていった。
煙のように姿を消す魔物を、人々はお化けだ魔性の物だと噂しあったのだ。
いたずらに姿を現すだけだった魔物が、ある日少女誘拐事件を引き起こす。
事件に恐怖を感じた少年探偵団の一人、篠崎少年が名探偵·明智小五郎に依頼したことから少年探偵団の団長·小林少年が立ち上がった。
少女を守るため奮闘する小林少年だが、突然謎のインド人に連れ去られてしまう。
その頃、事件の異変に気づいた少年探偵団は残された手掛かりを元に謎のインド人の隠れ家を見つけるのだが、その姿は忽然と消えてしまった。
幾つもの謎に包まれた事件だが、少年探偵団の活躍と名探偵·明智小五郎の推理によって見事解決する。
だがその代わり真の黒幕が姿を現し、次々と事件を巻き起こしていく。
果たして明智小五郎はそれらの事件を解決出来るのか?

日本の推理小説家。1894年10月21日生まれ、三重県生まれ。筆名は、19世紀の米国の小説家エドガー・アラン・ポーに由来する。数々の職業遍歴を経て作家デビューを果たす。本格的な推理小説と並行して『怪人二十面相』、『少年探偵団』などの少年向けの推理小説なども多数手がける。代表作は『人間椅子』、『黒蜥蜴』、『陰獣』など。1954年には乱歩の寄付を基金として、後進の推理小説作家育成のための「江戸川乱歩賞」が創設された。
