夜空にまたたく星座にまつわる32のおはなしを収録
夜空の星々を眺めていると、時間も忘れ、その美しさに心を奪われてしまいます。
一つ一つの星々の輝きだけでなく、星同士の並び方にも気を取られ、やがては、星と星とをつないで、浮かび上がる姿に想いを馳せるようになりました。
こうして星座が生まれました。古いものでは、すでに古代ペルシャやエジプトの時代には存在していたと言われています。
例えば、かんむり座は紀元前3200年頃の古代メソポタミア時代には誕生していたとも言われています。そして、国によって同じ星から違う形が見いだされ、その土地土地によって、さまざまな物語が綴られたといわれます。
特に有名なのは、ギリシャ神話と星座の関係でしょう。88の星座は最高神ゼウスを中心とするオリュンポスの神々や、地上に生きた人々の物語を描いておりますが……実に人間臭くも愛らしい神様たちや、ヘラクレスやオリオンなどの大英雄、美しい姫君……魅力的な登場人物が描き出す物語は、美しくもあり、どこかくすりと笑いを誘う物であったり、3000年以上の時を超えて人間の心を捉えて離さないものがあります。
また、天球上の太陽の通り道に位置する、いわゆる黄道十二星座と言えば、生まれた日から割り出される星座を元に、その人物の性格や相性、運命などを占う星座占いが広く普及していますが、そんな十二星座にも神話はあるのです。はてさて、あなたの星座はどんな神話を背負っているのでしょうか？
