 森鴎外の短編「寒山拾得」を執筆した経緯を書いたあとがきのようなもの。

徒然草に最初の仏はどうして出来たかと問われて困ったというような話があった。
子供に物を問われて困ることはたびたびである。中にも宗教上のことには、答に窮することが多い。しかしそれを拒んで答えずにしまうのは、ほとんどそれはうそだというと同じようになる。近ごろ帰一協会などでは、それを子供のために悪いと言って気づかっている。
森鴎外の短編「寒山拾得」と合わせて読むと、いっそう面白いだろう。

森鴎外
1862年（文久2年）島根県に生まれる。森家は津和野藩の典医を務めた。10歳の時、父と上京し、官立医学校に入るためにドイツ語を学ぶ。1873年、東京大学医学部に12歳で入学。卒業後は陸軍軍医副になり、東京陸軍病院に勤務し、ドイツの衛生制度を調べるためにドイツに留学。1889年「小説論」、翻訳戯曲を発表するなど軍医でありながら文筆活動をしていた。「陸軍省医務局長まで務めたが、1916年に退官。その後、東京国立博物館に就任。1922年に60歳で死去。©2022 PanRolling Asian World Literature
