あなたは、いつ、歯を磨くでしょうか?
ほとんどの人が、「食後」と答えると思います。
ですが食後は1日のうち、
「最も口のなかの細菌数が少ない」というのをご存じでしたか?
日本人の歯磨きのタイミングを調査した報告書などでは、
約80%の人が口のなかの菌が最も少ない朝食後に歯を磨き、
起床時に歯を磨きはじめる人は、たったの約20%という結果があります。
詳しくは本書で述べますが、朝起きてすぐは、
口のなかの歯垢や細菌数が最大になるばかりか、
細菌によって作り出された毒素の濃度も最大になります。
そして、朝起きてすぐに歯を磨かない人は、
実は、これらの菌や毒素を毎朝大量に飲み込んでいます。
口のなかの菌数が最も少ない時に行う「食後の歯磨き」は、
虫歯になるリスクを高めることがあります。
歯磨き後のうがいによって「唾液を喪失すること」と、
ただ歯磨きをするだけでは
舌や粘膜に食べかすや飲みかすがこびりついたままなので、
「口腔内の酸性化が助長されること」がその原因です。
そして、虫歯だけでなく、歯周病や口臭の原因なるばかりか、
インフルエンザやガンを引き起こすことがわかっています。
飲食後は虫歯の原因となる「口腔内の酸性化への対応」が大事。
食べた後も、飲んだ後も「お口のpHバランス」こそが命、なのです。
■長生きする人は唾液が多い!?
「食後の歯磨き」がよくない一番の理由は、
“唾液を減らしてしまうから”です。
唾液には、
・細菌の活動を抑えるpH緩衝作用
・歯の表面の保護と虫歯予防(再石灰化)
・口のなかの清潔を保持する自浄作用
があり、食事によって、口のなかが酸性に傾き、
エナメル質が溶けやすい状態になっている環境を
緩和する働きがあるのです。
