 昭和初期に活躍した小説家、堀辰雄の小説。自身は1923（大正12）年、19歳の時に堀辰雄は結核を発病した。自ら病みつつ、より病状の重かった婚約者に付き添って信州のサナトリウムに入った数ヶ月の経験をふまえて書かれたのが本作である。死を超えて存在する永遠の生と愛とを謳う、透明で純粋な詩情が高く評価された。「序曲」「春」「風立ちぬ」「冬」「死のかげの谷」の5章から成っている。宮駿監督の長編アニメ引退作となった作品にインスピレーションを与えた作品。Public Domain (P) 2015 Audible, Inc. Asian World Literature
