About this listen

The Heavenly Citizens series serves as a tool to help the Christian understand not only what the Bible teaches us, but also how to study the Bible. Explaining what the Bible teaches is like giving someone a fish to eat. Teaching him how to study the Bible is like teaching someone how to fish so he can feed himself. Both approaches are essential to developing spiritual maturity.

1,2 & 3 John is the twenty-fifth volume in the Heavenly Citizens series. Apostle John begins by telling us what he wants to accomplish in his first letter. He wants everyone to know Messiah Jesus personally, even as he does. This begins with each person recognizing the sin in his life, then turning to Jesus in prayer and confessing his sins to Him. Jesus then takes away every sin and gives the penitent sinner His own life to live in him. The remainder of 1 John then creates a video of the Christian life, as it is lived daily out in the world of sin.

In his second letter Apostle John warns of the heretics who have invaded the Church from the world of sin. It is not possible to spiritually mature, apart from engaging in spiritual warfare against heresies and all the other temptations believers face. As a good spiritual parent, Apostle John doesn’t want any of his spiritual children to be unaware of this spiritual truth.

In his third letter Apostle John warns about a specific heretic by name, viz., Diotrephes. He is the embodiment of the sinful flesh, in that he wants to be the top dog in the Church. Lacking confidence as heretics do, Diotrephes refuses to let traveling evangelists and missionaries (and apostles) visit the local church at which he plays barn boss. Apostle John reminds the believers that King Jesus is the absolute authority, and His Word rules the Church. Jesus personally appointed the twelve apostles to be His official ambassadors to the believers. All canonical authority in the Church comes from King Jesus through His official ambassadors, the apostles. This is exciting stuff! Join us in our class on 1, 2 & 3 John.

The approach for 1, 2 & 3 John, and for every volume in the Heavenly Citizens series, is to teach the student the meaning of Scripture. We also teach him or her how to study the Bible on his/her own. We do this in two ways: we provide a few rules by which to govern our Bible study, and we demonstrate by example how to study the Bible. Experience is an outstanding teacher. In our books we put into practice the rules for Bible study. By walking through the Bible with us, the reader experiences firsthand what our method of study is like.

We believe the student will come out of our studies with both an understanding of the Bible and the ability to truthfully understand the Bible on his/her own. The path lies before you. Walk through the gate and join the journey with us! And may the blessings of the Lord Jesus Christ be yours in abundance.
