Publisher's summary

Timothy joins Paul and Silas at the beginning of the second missionary journey, A.D. 50-52. A young man from Lystra, Timothy is the “Macgiver” of the Bible—he can fix anything with duct tape and a can of WD-40! This very resourceful young man becomes Paul’s protégé, but on assignment to Ephesus, Timothy finds himself in deep water, well over his head. Paul writes 1 Timothy to offer Timothy guidance and encouragement. Logos Bible Study’s Dr. Bill Creasy explains the social and philosophical challenges facing Timothy as Paul advises him on the proper formation of future leadership in the burgeoning church of Ephesus.

Editorial reviews

One of the wonderful qualities of Dr. Bill Creasy's Logos Bible Studies series is his way of making each study relevant to a modern lifestyle. He not only illuminates the deeper messages of the Bible stories, but puts its characters in relatable terms for those seeking to demystify some of God's more mysterious messages. This audio focuses on the relationship between Timothy and the Apostle Paul. Creasy's gentle voice is encouraging, and he often uses humor and anecdote to guide listeners to a deeper understanding of Christian truths.

Refuting false teachings

1 Timothy is a good book to compare with modern day preachers to determine whether they are following God's will or false teachings. Side note: This book contains oppressive social norms of the time such as slavery and lower status of women. Dr. Creasy neither shies away from nor condones these attitudes. Instead he helps differentiate social norms of time vs. God's will for our behavior in modern time.

Wonderful Lecture series

Funnily enough, this was the first lecture of Dr Creasy I had heard AND the first book of the Bible that I had ever studied, and it was hilarious how quickly all my ill-conceived and prejudiced views of Paul were overturned. I was a Bible baby, with only years of hearsay about how Paul was to blame for the ills of the Catholic Church over the past millennia and that he was against women and promoted slavery... well boy I was soon eating up those views with a slice of humble pie because Paul is and was an extraordinary hero and Dr Creasy just drops the listener into the heart of Paul's world, and through a historical, imaginative and literary analysis - the whole picture starts to unfold. This is one of Paul's last letters, written from death row, to a beloved and younger missionary brother. It is so tender and so helpful and the incredible outflowing of generosity that informed Paul's ministry is evident in the direction of his thoughts. Dr Craesy is a wonderful story teller and teacher unfolding the adventure story that was Paul's life, and the pivotal role he played in communicating the revelation of Grace shines through. I am hooked on Dr Creasy's bible teachings and am JOYFULLY working my way through the great wealth of studies available on audible. Thank you Bill!

good book

A good biblical listen that gave pertinent information that I didn't know. It enhanced my understanding of biblical history, culture, and literature.

Only covers first 3 chapters, nothing profound here

Only covers first 3 chapters of 1 Timothy; author says he thinks Paul was married but his wife and child died in childbirth…nothing profound.
