Good dialogue listen in simple Italian

The recording is clear and well enunciated. There are some disparities between the book and the audio version, but on far in between. I was thrilled to discover nuggets of vocabulary that I found quite useful (I read and listen after having progressed in Italian, which offered many benefits). The only reason I don’t give 5 stars is that at times the story reads less Italian and more Anglo-Saxon in style. It is still enjoyable and it comes in small, easy to consume morsels of dialogues. I recommend it.

Among several books that I’ve heard from this of author, this is the best

I liked the book a lot because it has compelling story and pretty understandable level of Italian. But I would say that it is mostly B1/ B2 level, according to my feeling. I wish they had more books like that.

please make more like this one

I think this book is perfect for someone at an intermediate level. it was an engaging story and you also provided the text, even if I had to buy it separately. Much appreciated. If you make 20 more of them I will buy them all. thank you for this book.

Wonderful

I find this book perfect for my learning level which is something like low intermediate. I'm using the audible version in conjunction with the book. They are a perfect combination. Each "conversation" is very short, which makes it easy to work on and digest. My method is to listen first, maybe a few times, and get what I can, then study the text, and then listen again. But everybody will have their own method. The many "Conversations" are actually one story, and the story is very engaging. It pulls me along; it's lots of fun.

There are several other books, rather similar, all I believe by Olly Richards. One of them is called "Short Stories in Italian." It too has a corresponding audio version and is very good, but the stories / chapters are much longer than the "conversations" and so it takes me longer to digest them and sometimes I bog down. But that is a small problem. I highly recommend this one along with the "101 Conversations."

And another book is called "Conversational Italian Dialogues." Each Dialogue is around 200 words, about twice as long as the "Conversations" in "101 Conversations." I think this Dialogues book is also excellent and recommend it highly. However, unlike the other two -- the "Conversations" and the "Stories" -- the Audible version of the Dialogues is hard for me to listen to. One of the readers in each Dialogue is a native speaker, while the other is glaringly not. It's really jarring. But I would recommend the Dialogues book very highly in itself.

Overall, for me, the 101 Conversations, combination of book and audible, hits the mark best, but I think the other two are also excellent. Olly does a great job getting exactly the right level of difficulty mixed with engaging stories and situations.

Thank you Olly!

Surprisingly good

I own a lot of material from Olly Richards and I appreciate how it has helped me in three foreign languages. However, some of the other material was, despite his best efforts, kind of dull at times. With this style of "101 conversations", I think he hit the nail on the head. I expected 101 random and/or dull conversations, but I quickly realized that it was being used as a tool to tell the story. In short, this is a mini novel told through dialogues. Between dialogues, there is a bit of exposition to also helps to advance the story and change the setting. A small glossary is given at the end of each chapter. I was pleasantly surprised that story was actually an art theft mystery! I found myself wanting to know how it would end. That's good -- I believe language learning happens when you a) /need/ to learn, and when the language becomes just a /medium/ instead of the focus of the activity itself. Well done also, Marco Soldà (narrator). Unlike many such books, this person understood that it was his job to bring to life the many characters and their feelings. When the characters are stressed or running, you can tell. When someone is acting clever, you can tell. Overall, it's way better done than a lot of the material for learners where it seems like the only qualification for "voice acting" is the ability to speak the target language.

Fun Entertainment studying Italian!

After self studying Italian for several years from a more grammatical point, then setting my studies aside for two years, I decided following the advice of Ollie and others to engage in extensive reading. I can see how my grammar has helped so much to make the reading far more comprehensible. I wish I had not taken that break of two years, but it's a great asset to remember as much as I do which aids my reading comprehension. NOTE 1: I have several other short stories in Italian from other publishers. Ollie is probably #1. NOTE 2: I bought the print copy of the book to read while listening and to be able annotate the book. Really, the two must be used concurrently. I think the Audible may have a PDF text file but that's never as good as paper!

Crappy audio quality.

Olly’s other stuff is top notch Audio. This one is rushed, poor audio quality, and one speaker for multiple voices. Crap overall and unlistenable.
