江戸時代末期の長編人情噺のうち。
与三郎は無宿人狩りで捕まり、佐渡に島流しになってしまった。金鉱で水汲みをさせられたが、番頭が手をまわしたお陰で、少しはましな荷役に回された。やがて佐渡から島抜けを考えるようになり、雨の強い夜、格子を外し一目散に駆け出した。丸太を組んで筏を作り、海に出れば潮は本土にぶつかるように流れている。与三郎は気が付くと、岸に乗り上げていた。そして、地面が繋がっている江戸へと駆け出した。不可能だと言われていた佐渡から、初めて島抜けをした与三郎であった。(C)1976 日本コロムビア株式会社 Performing Arts
