We live in evil times and one of the casualties of our times is the truth. Truth is thought to be relative to one’s viewpoint and distorted to achieve personal and selfish ends. We see this flexible view of truth practiced in our political process, businesses, interpersonal relationships, and in the church as well. The distortion of the truth is a form of deceit that we have grown so accustomed to, that we are not shocked by what is commonplace. What was once considered to be lying, today is simply defined as the truth relative to the person speaking it. This gap between the perception of truth and what truth really is, leaves us with no absolute truth in society. Truth is seen as something that can evolve to fit the current ebb and flow of public opinion. For those called of God, there is absolute truth. It is found in the person and work of Jesus Christ. However, attempts to distort and twist that truth for personal gain or advancement is routine even in the church. For us who live in a time of deceit and lies, we need to be able to tell truth from false, even in the church. This is a study of four short New Testament letters which were written to address the question of, how do we know the truth in a world full of liars? Bibles Bibles & Bible Study Christianity
