About this listen

21 Months, 24 Days is an engaging memoir of a blue-collar kid turned soldier. Threatened by the draft in the late 60s, he enlisted in the Army to avoid becoming a grunt, yet ended up one anyway. He endured a grueling war in Vietnam and then returned to a country too angry to care. While his journey took unexpected turns, his choices got him there, so he did his best to react positively and keep moving forward.

Udden delivers his story in a comfortable, friendly style. He conveys the experiences of basic training, advanced infantry training, and what it was like to live, work, guard, patrol, and fight in the jungle. The listener will feel the adrenalin rush of a firefight, the thrill of a wild ride dangling below a helicopter, and the humor in celebrating his 21st birthday on a firebase.

You will live through his journey exactly as he experienced it.

Loved the story and the reader, well written and better than most reflection of the war.

Great Book

Sincerely well told diary. I'm a cousin of the author, and our family is fairly and in some cases, beautifully characterized in descriptions. Thank you to all the families and millitary service personnel who sacrifice so much for us.

Needs to be made a high quality movie.

I loved the honesty and emotion throughout the story. Mr. Udden shows great courage in retelling his account.

Honest account

I thought this book was excellent. I thought the writer was plainspoken just as if he would any day on the street. He served with honor and dignity. Frankly, I was struck at his composure and aggressiveness at succeeding. You can tell, and the writer is a person of character.

Just a real person, writing as he sees it.

A infantry soldiers time in Vietnam without a lot of fanfair! I enjoyed hearing this mans experience and made very glad I didn't do what he did when I went in the army back at this time!

A regular army grunt

The editing in this book is very choppy. Also not the best story as is seem the writer could have used more help telling his story.

Smoking dope and being a coward by doing everything he could not going back into battle. Did not care about his team mates. Was waste of money for me to buy this book.
