 真面目で堅物の親父（大旦那）と道楽者で家に寄りつかない若旦那。無理に頼んで嫁にもらったのに、若旦那は柳橋の芸妓・菊江に入れ込んで、病で実家に戻っている女房のお花を避けるようにして、見舞いに行かない。お花は器量もいいし、評判のいい過ぎた女房なのに、若旦那は「何でもできて堅っ苦しい」と感じてしまっている。お花が危篤との報を受け大旦那が見舞いに出ると、若旦那は菊江を呼んで大騒ぎ。そんな時にお花は「随分嫌われました．．．」と言って死んでしまう。戻ってきた大旦那は、すぐ仏壇に線香をあげようとするが．．。(菊江が着ていたのが白薩摩で、白地に紺のかすり模様を出した木綿織物である）(C)1980 日本コロムビア株式会社 Performing Arts
