Publisher's summary

When you’re desperate, you’ll do just about anything to survive…

Jennie Taylor gets the bad news: their family’s money is running out and her mother wants to send her out west to escape to a new life. Jennie’s father left them with nothing when he abandoned them a few years ago, and the little they had is running out, and they may even lose their home.

Seeing it coming months ago, Mrs. Taylor answered an ad from a rancher out west looking for a bride and wrote back pretending to be Jennie. The two got on nicely in writing, and Jennie’s mother sees hope, finally revealing her plans to her daughter when she thinks it’s time. Only after assuring her daughter she’ll be fine and that it’s the only way, Jennie finally, and reluctantly agrees. But only if her mother promises to join them at some point, which they both know most likely will never happen.

But things change fast once Jennie arrives, for Daniel has a significant surprise. He hasn’t been entirely honest, and that may just jeopardize everything, for Jennie already has a severe distrust of men, and her confidence in this arrangement was tenuous to begin with.

Christmas is approaching and Jennie wants nothing more than to return home, but she’s stuck with no money and little means outside of Daniel’s help. For his part, he knows he did wrong, but something in him changes, and he hopes to make things right. Jennie herself falls for someone she never thought she would, and it isn’t Daniel. At least not yet… For this Christmas has a surprise for them all, and in more ways than either expect…

It was weird

The virtual voice did NOT work in this book. Between the very automated sounding reading and the oddness of the story, I can’t say I loved it. I think the story had potential, but it got lost. The ‘Bride’ was a lot too negative in her thought processes, always jumping to the negative conclusion. The dude was not so great either, maybe they did deserve each other… there were some areas that felt like hunks of the story was just cut out. Then not smoothed over. I hope the next one by this author is better.
