About this listen

It's Christmas in the windy city of Chicago with two award-winning stories to warm your heart for the holiday season.

"Dante’s Gift"

Kathleen James has put her practical side away for once and looks forward to the perfect romantic evening: an intimate dinner with the man of her dreams - and an engagement ring. She is not prepared to hear that he wants to bring his grandmother back from Italy to live with him.

Dominic Lawrence has planned this marriage proposal for six months. Nothing can go wrong - until his Nonna calls. Now he must interrupt the tenderest night of Katie’s life with the news that another woman will be under their roof.

When Antonia’s sister dies, she finds herself longing to be back in the States. An Italian wartime bride from the ‘40s, she knows how precious love can be. Can her own story of an American soldier and a very special collie once again bring two hearts together at Christmas?

"Merry Christmas, Henry"

Henry, a shy and talented artist, moonlights as a security guard at a museum and loses his heart to a beautiful, melancholy woman in a painting. As his obsession grows, he finds a kindred soul who helps him in his search for happiness. On Christmas Eve, Henry dares to take a chance on love and fulfill his dream.

Great Narration makes it worth it.

The stories are very predictable. Nice, but a bit dull. Tom Jordan's narration really makes it worth a listen.

Sweet Chicago Short Stories

I listened to this several months ago and couldn't wait to get done with the stories. I wasn't sure how to review it because I didn't care for them much. Finally getting to writing reviews recently and I thought I should re-listen and give it another chance. As I listened, nothing that bothered me before was an issue.

Dante's Gift is the story of a young couple on the verge of getting engaged when circumstances bring his Italian Grandmother to live with him. The girlfriend is worried that things will not be the same with grandma around. I enjoyed the history woven into this story of the story of how grandma and grandpa meet during the war.

Henry's Gift is about a shy artist who finally meets the love of his life. The supernatural element here was perfect.

Tom Jordan is an excellent narrator and did a marvelous job for both stories.

I received a free Audible copy of this story, at my request, in exchange for a honest review.

Good Story and narration

Two delightful stories the setting of the Chicago holidays, love and expectations. Nana comes and acts as a matchmaker for them. Have read these separately and both stories warm the heart of how they found love. Given audio for my voluntary review

Two Chicago Based Sweet Christmas Romances

I liked both of these romances. The first tells the story of romances in two generations. Just as a man is about to propose to the love of his life, he receives a call from his "Nona" in Italy. She's elderly and, upon the recent death of her sister, alone and although she doesn't ask, he senses that she's going to need his help so, just before he pops the question, he tells his girlfriend he's bringing Nona home to live with him ... with predictable results.
The rest of the story tells the tale of Nona's WWII romance with a handsome American soldier and looks at the "important things" in life.
The second story is a sweet romance about a reclusive painter who supports himself by working as night security in a local art museum who becomes obsessed with one of the paintings he guards.
Both stories are well written and well narrated and their subtle Christmas connections make them perfect to put you in the mood for your own holiday magic, although the seasonal themes are sufficiently subtle to make them suitable for year round enjoyment.

Beautiful, Just Beautiful!!

Tom Jordan did a beautiful job narrating "A Chicago Christmas Collection" and he has a sexy voice!! The stories/books are very beautifully written!!

Merry Christmas Henry

Merry Christmas Henry is a beautifully, well-written story. Right from the start I was fascinated by Henry. Henry is a kind and quite type. He also paints and has a beloved aunt who supported his dreams. He spends his lunch time sitting in a chair staring at a beautiful but sad woman " Rebecca" in a painting. He decides to make some changes to the painting. One day when he walked away after saying Merry Christmas to the beautiful lady he heard someone say Merry Christmas Henry. You really need to read this book. I truly loved it!!

Dante's Gift
Aubrey mixes the present with the past in this book and actually seems to take you with her. The story starts in Chicago with lovers Dominic and Katie, and the descriptions of the city are beautifully done.Dominic has been planning his proposal down to the minute details for months but, when the time comes, he screws, and not in a cute or funny way. He starts by telling Kate that his great aunt died and he wants his grandmother to move in with him. Kate, decides that she needs time to figure out if she can deal with his grandmother being in the house, so she puts off answering his proposal. The grandmother comes and shares her story of meeting her true love with the hope to inspire the couple to take that next step. The part of the story I liked the best was the WWII romance. It was well woven into the story and had good segues into the storytelling. I felt more connection with Antonia and Ken than I did Dominic and Katie. Dante was a cute dog and I loved his reactions to the soldier. I'm not much for war stories, but this one really gets your heart and had me tearing up at the special moments. I loved how Dante had the ring box attached to his collar. I truly loved this book!!!! This is a must read book!!!!

Both stories were great. Well written with enough details to engage you in the stories. The characters were likeable and had depth. The narrator did a great job as well.
