About this listen

Sour and stingy Ebenezer Scrooge's emotional transformation after the supernatural visits of Jacob Marley and the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Yet to Come. The novella met with instant success and critical acclaim. A Christmas Carol has never been out of print and has been adapted to film, opera, and other media.

Wonderfully retold, the story of Scrooge and the spirits of Christmas by narrator John Pether will surely be a holiday tradition in my house!

Getting into the Spirit of Christmas

I received this a few years ago as an Audible freebie and make a point to play it each year. If you have never listened to the original and unabridged Christmas Carol, I would highly recommend getting this one. Then sit in a comfy chair, preferable by a fire and relax into it. Dickens narrative is so vivid you will be pulled into the story for a delightful three hours.

Many of us have our own favorite versions of this classic. For me, this is best audio version. For the movie version, I highly recommend the one with Patrick Stewart. It sticks closely to the story as Dickens wrote it and Stewart, to my mind, is the embodiment of Scrooge and his transformation.

Happy Holidays!
