About this listen

As children, Charlotte and Jack experienced extraordinary evil and heartache. Now, as young adults, they must learn how to put their pasts behind them and believe that love can conquer all.

With a father who abandoned her and a mother lost in drugs, alcohol, and sex, Charlotte grew up in a home where disfunction was a part of everyday life. Desperately needing love and acceptance, she aches for the day her life will be different. Now, at 17, she knows she must flee her toxic environment, even if it means living with a father she resents. This will be her last-ditch effort to escape her miserable life.

Jack’s earliest memories were horrific. As a young child, he watched as his father brutalized and abused his mother. When his grandparents gained custody, their love provide him an opportunity for a better life.

Now, Char and Jack’s lives have crossed paths, and their similar experiences have helped them forge a bond; first as friends, then as lovers. But even the strongest love is often tested, and when life takes another horrible turn, their relationship is brought to the brink of destruction. Can this fledgling relationship withstand the horrors of the past and the heartbreaks of the present, or will tragic events steal the happiness that could have been?

Great story!

I loved this book from the moment I started listening. It’s an emotional story about heartache and forgiveness. I loved how the first chapter came back into play at the end. I also loved the back story of some of the characters. I feel like it played a big part in how the story turned out.

The narration wasn’t the best for me, but the story was great!!

Good Story

I liked the premise of the story. Two people who have had very troubled pasts must overcome their fears and find their way. I liked how the story moved quickly while giving an in depth history of the main characters while also having commentary from others to deepen their stories.

I didn’t care for the narration as his voices for different people were a little too over the top. Overall it was a good story and I’d read another book by this author.
