About this listen
A Crash Course in Artificial Intelligence takes you on a fascinating journey exploring the past, present, and future of a technology that will soon be embedded into nearly everything we do. This engaging and accessible guide unpacks the essentials of AI, from its fascinating origins to its cutting-edge applications in healthcare, education, and beyond. Discover how AI impacts your life today—and what it means for your future.
In this book, we explore the ethical challenges, real-world applications, and practical insights to thrive in an AI-driven world. Whether you’re an entrepreneur, professional, or curious person, this book offers the clarity and tools to embrace AI as a force for innovation and growth.
This book covers AI in all of its applications—medicine, finance, commerce, education, business, transportation, creativity, design and much more. There's a lot of information to digest, yet the writing style is informal and easy to take in. You will enjoy this ride and learn a lot about a subject that really warrants our attention.
If befriended and used well, AI can be empowering and extraordinary. If we leave AI to its own devices (or to the tech crowd), we become passive observers in what may very well become an extension and enhancer of our human capabilities.

Story
Superintelligence asks the questions: What happens when machines surpass humans in general intelligence? Will artificial agents save or destroy us? Nick Bostrom lays the foundation for understanding the future of humanity and intelligent life. The human brain has some capabilities that the brains of other animals lack. It is to these distinctive capabilities that our species owes its dominant position. If machine brains surpassed human brains in general intelligence, then this new superintelligence could become extremely powerful - possibly beyond our control.

Story
On May 31, 2014, in the Milwaukee suburb of Waukesha, Wisconsin, two 12-year-old girls attempted to stab their classmate to death. Morgan Geyser and Anissa Weier’s violence was extreme, but what seemed even more frightening was that they committed their crime under the influence of a figure born by the internet: the so-called “Slenderman”. Yet the even more urgent aspect of the story, that the children involved suffered from undiagnosed mental illnesses, often went overlooked in coverage of the case.

Story
Artificial intelligence does the seemingly impossible - driving cars, trading stocks, and teaching children. But facing the sea change that AI will bring can be paralyzing. How should companies set strategies, governments design policies, and people plan their lives for a world so different from what we know? In Prediction Machines, three eminent economists recast the rise of AI as a drop in the cost of prediction. With this single, masterful stroke, they lift the curtain on the AI-is-magic hype and show how basic tools from economics provide clarity about the AI revolution and a basis for action by CEOs, managers, policy makers, investors, and entrepreneurs.

Story
The grid is an accident of history and of culture, in no way intrinsic to how we produce, deliver and consume electrical power. Yet this is the system the United States ended up with, a jerry-built structure now so rickety and near collapse that a strong wind or a hot day can bring it to a grinding halt. The grid is now under threat from a new source: renewable and variable energy, which puts stress on its logics as much as its components.

Brain imaging research is showing that stimulating glowing screens are as dopaminergic (dopamine activating) to the brain’s pleasure center as sex. And a growing mountain of clinical research correlates screen tech with disorders like ADHD, addiction, anxiety, depression, increased aggression, and even psychosis.

Story
Run a Google search for “black girls” - what will you find? “Big Booty” and other sexually explicit terms are likely to come up as top search terms. But, if you type in “white girls”, the results are radically different. The suggested porn sites and un-moderated discussions about “why black women are so sassy” or “why black women are so angry” presents a disturbing portrait of black womanhood in modern society. In Algorithms of Oppression, Safiya Umoja Noble challenges the idea that search engines like Google offer an equal playing field for all forms of ideas, identities, and activities.

AI is less and less artificial, more mainstream!
Peterson’s book is an enlightening and accessible guide that explains the complex world of AI. Peterson takes readers on a journey through the history, current applications, and ethical considerations of artificial intelligence, making difficult and techy concepts understandable for all. I was initially skeptical, even wary of A.I., which intimidated me, but after reading this book, I feel much more confident with the subject.
The book begins by exploring AI’s origins and its evolution into today’s groundbreaking innovations. The author delves into how AI is already a part of our daily lives, from medical diagnostics to personalized marketing, often without our realization. He also addresses pressing questions about the ethical implications of AI and how individuals and businesses can adapt to utilize the benefits of an AI-driven world.
I learned a lot because it’s clear, concise, and full of relatable examples, making complex topics easier to understand. He provides practical insights on how to adapt skills and mindset for an AI-driven future, and wisely emphasizes the importance of responsible and ethical use of technology. Peterson’s style is engaging and his thorough research make this book both informative and enjoyable.

Build up acceptance and understanding
As someone who generally tells people I don't want to use AI whenever I am given a chance, it was fascinating to listen to this book and discover how many ways I am actually already engaging with AI without knowing it. Honestly, with this book's help to gain a bit more understanding, I think I can start to loosen up just a little bit in my resistance to using AI. It's interesting to think about how much more of an influence it will have very very soon too. If you are nervous about what AI currently is, or what it might become, this book might do a fantastic job of easing your nerves and getting you interested instead.

AI Finally Makes Sense
I just finished this book, and I actually get AI now. I’ve always been curious about it but found most explanations either too complicated or just boring. This book kept it straightforward without feeling dry or overly technical. It explained how AI is being used today and what it might mean for the future, which was really interesting. I liked that it didn’t just focus on the positives but also talked about the risks. If you’re new to AI, this is a solid intro.
