Publisher's summary

Alexis Hightower considers trust a four-letter word, and she has no intention of getting serious with anyone. After all, her day job as a nurse is plenty serious enough. On one of her nights off, she attends a concert for her favorite band and ends up on stage. She never expected to meet the legendary singer in person, or that he would be the one to make her question her way of life. But how do you learn to trust again when the one you want is desired by thousands?

Oliver Honeycutt has it all, success, fame, admirers, but when his family is faced with the unthinkable, none of it matters. Stranded in Atlanta, he meets Alexis, who's unlike any woman he's known before. As his attraction grows, plans for the future change, which leaves someone desperate to keep them apart. But Oliver won't be easily discouraged. To have a future with Alexis, he'll do whatever it takes to make her see the man behind the image.

A Face in the Crowd

The story is a really fun love story, with some sad realities. Most of us will never meet our favorite stars, but being a nurse Lexi meets her favorite band under terrible circumstances. And she is as reluctant as anyone in her situation would be over her involvement with them. Knowing they will leave one day and it will be back to life as usual.

The audio is a bit low, so it's not easy to listen to if their is any noise around. And I notice it repeats in a few spots. I thought I was crazy at first, but it does it in several spots.

Bed narrator

This was the worst narration I have ever heard!!! So hard to listen too. Sounded like she was in an empty bucket

Engaging Story Despite the Audio Quality

Any additional comments?

I was provided this audiobook at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator in exchange for an unbiased review. I'm not a fan of a single narrator performing both male and female POV's unless the story is written in 3rd person. Despite this fopa, the audio recording has issues that was almost distracting enough that I wasn't sure I would finish listening to the audiobook. Luckily, the writing is captivating enough to keep my interest and I fully enjoyed the story.

Pulls you in, breaks your heart and makes you smil

Any additional comments?

This was a cute fun read that pulls you in. I wouldn’t say it was realistic but a great fantasy that most of us wish would happen to us. With Alexis being a nurse when they bring in her heartthrob brother who is really sick she gets to meet and get to know the singer she has had a crush on for years. As she takes care of his brother, giving them her sassy attitude that keeps them smiling through hard times she is able to take the sick brother into hand giving him some much needed advice that brings him around and makes him the lovable man he is. At the same time she fights her feeling for his brother Oliver. As she gets to know him it gets harder when he lays on the charm which keeps her knees weak and her mind full of dreams. The plot is based around them and his brothers sickness it is filled with sorrow, smiles, laughs and drama.

I have listened to a few of Ms. Kahn’s narration and there is still the echo that really takes away from the audio performance. The narration it’s self is really very good, it would be a wonderful audio if there wasn’t the echo. There are a few places where she repeats a few words or a sentence. A couple of very slight volume changes that you almost do not notice. Her character voices are wonderful , you have no trouble knowing who is talking and what they are feeling. Her normal voice is very pleasant, her male and female voices are delightful. Beside the echo which after awhile you do not notice (I guess I got use to it) there is no background noises. I am guessing with the repeat of wording is when breaks were taken. I did enjoy the audio and felt she bought it to life. There were times I chuckled and times I really was very sad and my heart broke for the characters. I put that down to the narration really being able to make me feel what she was saying. She puts a lot of emotion into her reading that does pull the listener in. I am saying again she really needs to think about getting a filter to take the echo out which would really give this audio a five stars.

I really enjoyed the plot, the way the author put the problems out there but was still able to make you chuckle and smile through her humor in the characters. Alexis does have some issues from her past which rolls over to her present. Falling for a heartthrob with so many fans is hard, not knowing if it is the fame that is the pull or if it is really love is hard. We all have a picture in our heads of what are heartthrobs are like but are they truly like that or when you get to know them will they be different. Alexis has to deal with his fans, his mother and other people who are jealous of her plus her past which makes it hard to trust anyone. For every step forward there is someone pushing them a few steps back.

Oliver is past a different girl for every night he is looking for the ONE. Every woman he meets is after his fame they want to the women on his arm and to get some of his money but they do not want to get to know him. When he meets Alexis she is down to earth, puts them in their place and treats them like normal people. This grabs his attention and holds it. As he gets to know her he finds she is the women he wants but they live states away from each other and she isn’t willing to give them a chance. He isn’t giving up but things aren’t going to be easy for either of them.

What made this story for me was the easy way the plot twists and turns pulling on your heartstrings but keeping you smiling as your heart breaks. The humor of the characters, I just love the boy’s mother she is a lady tiger who protects her clubs. At first I thought Oh NO not one of those mothers but as you get to know her she is a delightful woman. I loved the way the romance builds, the picking and teasing between them all. Her best friend is out of this world, I so want her for my besty. This is a very clean read up until close to the end. I really liked that, there was no jumping into bed but some really heart to heart chats, getting to know each other and some very meaningful time spent with just them, friends and family and some one on one time for each character to have some alone time. The story really came together making the reader really like the characters, plot and the true meaning of a relationship. This is the first time I have read/listen to anything by this author but it won’t be the last. I loved her writing style and how she pulls you in from the first page keeping your attention until the last.

The nice story destroyed by terrible performance

the story is sweet and interesting but it ruined by poor sound management and dull acting of narrators.

Awful narration

I had to bail on this one. Awful narration ruined it. Poor quality and poor performance by narrator.

Audible version is AWFUL

The narration was so bad I couldn't listen. It sounded as if it was recorded in an echo chamber and the female narrator sounded as if she were about 40, and bored.

I'll try to read the book and hope the story is better than the narration.

First 3/4 of book was pretty good, but last 1/4 and recording quality awful

Story was interesting and I liked listening to most of it. There were some serious errors in the sound editing like being able to hear the change in tracks between lines/sentences and having some lines repeated as if there were two clips next to one another. But story was good enough until the last quarter to mostly ignore. The ending was so...contrived? Underwhelming? It almost seemed as if author was told she had to add certain things to the book to meet a requirement (time/plot/whatever) and she just crammed it all in at the end last minute. That ruined it for me.
