About this listen

Sofia Ivanovna Tyutcheva (1870-1957) was appointed to the service of Nicholas II's daughters in 1907 and served as a companion to them until her resignation in 1912. In 1945, she recorded her memoirs of her time spent with the last Russian Imperial Family, among other things recounting the trip to England to visit the English Royal Family and a visit to the Empress's brother in Hesse. Tyutcheva records her impressions of all the immediate members of the Tsar's family with interesting details about their life not found in other sources. Politics & Activism Royalty Memoir
