About this listen

When both Eddie's parents catch a disease that makes them turn yellow, go a bit crinkly around the edges, and smell of old hot-water bottles, it's agreed he should go and stay with relatives at their house, Awful End. Unfortunately for Eddie, those relatives are Mad Uncle Jack and Even Madder Aunt Maud...©2000 Philip Ardagh (P)2003 Random House, Inc., Listening Library, An Imprint Of Random House Audio Publishing Group Action & Adventure Family Life Growing Up Growing Up & Facts of Life Humorous Fiction Literature & Fiction Primary Education Fiction Comedy

Critic reviews

"A tongue-in-cheek tale of a hapless youth...Adult fans of Bleak House and Oliver Twist will appreciate Ardagh's clever crafting, and kids who lap up Lemony Snicket's series will take quickly to this tale and clamor for the next." (Publishers Weekly)

This story is hilarious! If you like Lemony Snicket or other silly and clever books, you will love this! This book and the other two in the series are definitely worth buying!

I got this to listen with my kids, and I think I ended up enjoying it more than they did! What a fun, silly, tangential romp of a story. Narrator was excellent and I'm thoroughly glad I listened!

A Jolly Good Time

I've heard this book so many times. It has so many puns that keep me listening to it as an adult, even though I found it as a child.
