About this listen

More books have been written about the American Civil War then any event in U.S. history, and this book deserves a place with those most studied. John Esten Cooke, a Captain in Stewart's Cavalry, and a man who knew Lee personally, gives an insider's view of Lee, his demeanor, and thoughts - before, during, and after this great conflict.

Fairly interesting info so far.

Robert E. Lee for obvious reasons

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Very, very, terrible. Made me want to go to sleep. He does not hold your attention or make the book interesting.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Probably not, because it did not hold my interest.

Any additional comments?

None

Terrible narrator.

I couldn't get through the book. The author was so pompous and condescending saying things like "I won't go into that. If I have to explain that to you, you have no business reading this book..."

Condescending

If you like to read biographies about people when the author doesn't really provide a biography of the person, than this is the book for you. If you also want to be spoken down to and, literally told that you, as the reader, are ignorant, then this is the book for you. While I am interested in learning more about the Civil War and those involved, being a West Coaster now living in the South, I was hoping to learn more about REL by listening to this book. I had no idea that this book would not cover his formative years, his family, his years in the Mexican War, etc, just certain battles of the Civil War. The author is so condesending to his listeners that I finally got to the point that I could not listen any longer. I need to find a better book about the life of REL.

Written by a condescending, pretentious a*&#^@e
