What if Elizabeth Bennet had an experience as a young girl which taught her that a handsome face does not mean a man is trustworthy?

A really good story

I loved the book and knew I had to get the audio book. It was awesome!
Elizabeth’s experience helps her change the fortunes of her family with the exception of Lydia.
I loved how the changes in the plot made the story more enjoyable.

Very good story

This was a long detailed story. It begins when Lizzy is 12. She experiences a bad thing with a tenant’s child which changes everything for her. She takes good care of everyone around her. Some different pairings which makes it a really good entertaining story. Great Jaff

Original story premise

I liked this story very much. There are some unique pairings of familiar characters which is always interesting. I enjoyed the arc of the characters changing and growing. It was just a bit too long and really could have been tightened up and still stayed with the premise of looking at other people especially potential marriage partners in a deeper way to assure future happiness.

I will definitely want to listen to this again and I do recommend it to Austen variation fans. I also recommend this author’s other books. Her stories are unique and well written.

Young Adult

I gave this a 3 star rating- "pretty good". If it had been offered as a "Young Adult"novel I would have given it 5 stars. The story has the characteristics of a Regency Romance. Thomas draws very dramatic villains who enable her heroines to explore important life lessons.

Really good story and changes with characters

I thought very interesting, different twists with a well known story. The story was very good and performance but hard not to compare to Stevie Zimmerman!

Joining of the Bennet sisters

A long enjoyable story. Read the tale when first published. The Bennet sisters join forces to discover the worthy from the undeserving of the single men in want of a wife. Lydia is a spoiled brat and marries...not telling. Ok no spoilers here. Elizabeth and Darcy are yes in this tale however all our favorite characters join in with their own journeys and mates. The narration was good. The voice of Darcy was a little gruff for my taste but on the whole an enjoyable story with great narration.

the very best variation I have ever read

I have enjoyed this more than all of the other variations I have read which are many. I found this imaginative, engaging, original, and thoroughly delightful. if the author had just left out rolling the eyes which was not done except in sexual insinuation until 1950

A Pleasing Face can Hide Much Evil

This is a great P&P variation. Elizabeth Bennet discovers at a tender age that a man who appears pleasant may be hiding his true (evil) nature behind the mask he shows to the world. She witnesses a neighborhood favorite attack a young girl and when that same man wants to marry her innocent elder sister she manages to find a way to disrupt his plans. She then begins to educate each of her sisters as they make their “come outs” to society to find out what hides behind the masks of the men they meet.

In spite of her vaunted ability to recognize bad intentions she misses much of Darcy’s honorable nature when he makes errors due to some misplaced pride. She even almost misses Wickham’s obvious lack of truthfulness when he begins to spin his tale of woe. Luckily she unwinds his words to discover the discrepancies in his tale and is able to ascertain that his pleasing face hides something dark.

With the exception of Lydia Elizabeth has opened the eyes of her sisters to evil in the world and we have a much better behaved group of Bennet girls. This is a delightful, lower angst read and one of my favorite go tos for a relaxing P&P “what if.” I highly recommend.
