About this listen
A Mole like No Other by Julia B. Grantham is a fresh, delightful story about a toy mole who is looking for love, friendship, and his place in the world.
The tale of Moley and his friends is set in a cozy English country house with a traditional garden. While it is especially popular amongst 5- to 10-year-olds, children of all ages will love Moley’s adventure, subtle literary references, and tongue-in-cheek humor.
This charming new tale is brought to sparkling life by Alison Larkin, internationally acclaimed comedienne and the award-winning narrator of The Complete Novels of Jane Austen, Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, and The Secret Garden.
Larkin has been hailed by The Times as "marvelously light-footed and hugely entertaining", and she brings all those skills into play here.

Her younger brother is three, and he doesn't listen to longer stories yet. This makes A Mole Like No Other perfect, as the 6-year-old can listen to it at bedtime while it lulls her younger brother off to sleep. He's been having such a hard time keeping quiet and falling asleep lately, but Alison Larkin's voice is so pleasant to listen to that he stays quiet to hear it, and then ends up nodding off. One of my older daughters tried putting on a different audio for the littles to listen to the other night, and as soon as she left the room, my 6-year-old switched it right back to Moley. She loves to tell me in the morning all of the new friends he made when she was listening the night before.
This book reminds me of some of the delightful stories that we grew up with, like Winnie the Pooh and the Wind in the Willows, the Velveteen Rabbit and even Hitty: Her First Hundred Years. The mix of playthings and real animals brings in that innocent sense of wonder and magic that fills childhood with imagination and fun. I love it! I'm particularly glad we bought it in audio as I would never have the energy to read it over and over as much as my daughter likes. :)
