 Jennie and Jessie Moon are ten-year-old cousins, although to see them together one would think them twins. Jennie lives with her parents in Watsonville, California, a small agricultural community in Santa Cruz County, while Jessie lives with her grandparents at Moon Lake Resort, a popular summer retreat nestled deep within the Sierra Nevada Mountains.

Having spent each summer at Moon Lake for as long as she can remember, Jennie arrives to begin another adventure with her cousin. Days filled with hiking, fishing, swimming, boating and challenging each other to guess details about the various families who fill the rental cabins all summer long.

But when Jennie finds a discarded overcoat in one of the cabins—with an unknown phone number on a piece of paper in one of the pockets—what was supposed to be a summer filled with innocent fun soon spirals into a pocketful of trouble.
