About this listen

Across the mountains called the Dragon's Teeth, beyond the chill reach of the Werewind and the fires of the world's beginning, above the walls of the castle Fangdred, stands Windtower. From this lonely keep the Star Rider calls forth the war that even wizards dread, fought for a woman's hundred-lifetime love. A woman called Nepanthe, princess to the Stormkings…

I am a big fan of the Black Company series and wanted to try out Glen Cook's other writing. I was surprised to find this book to be nothing like Black Company, in almost every way. I am, however, pleasantly impressed by Glen Cook's talent and versatility. This was poetic and reminded me more of a folk tale than a fantasy novel. it meandered in a lovely way-like a walk through an old, mysterious garden. The performance was well done, but relaxing so do not listen while at work or operating heavy machinery. The one consistent style between this and Black Company is Glen Cook's ability to give each character a consistent and unique voice. Also, the sarcastic and nuanced humor is still there. Definitely worth reading, just different.

Nothimg like Black Company-good in a different way

After finishing his Black company series, or atleast reading the last book out had to find some more of his fantasy works, this did not disappoint. Very much an adventure story, the next books are more bellicose, grim dark, and grow in complexity.

I love Cook

it as been years since i tead this book. it was like hearing a brand new book. i reccomend this book and will buy more in the series.

a battle between the "gods" .... however most of the characters don't know this. treachery, love, hate, everything. last 2 chapters will astonish you.

i liked it

A very confusing story further marred by a voice actor that does the same voice for every character I love Glen Cook and the Black Company, but this is not even on that scale of greatness. I fully understand this was his first book (or one of his first I don’t remember) but this just isn’t enjoyable.

Terrible all around
