Publisher's summary

As she steps out of the shower and wraps herself in a warm towel, her breath catches. There’s writing scrawled in the condensation on the mirror. I’m going to kill you. She doesn’t even have time to scream…

It’s Halloween when a young woman is reported missing from the small town of Black Rock Falls and Sheriff Jenna Alton and her partner, Deputy David Kane, race to her remote home. But all they find are signs of a struggle and blood on the bathroom floor. Freya Richardson has vanished.

With no leads on Freya’s whereabouts, Jenna hits a wall in the investigation. Then the bodies of three women are discovered buried in a local forest. Each one has been wrapped in a blanket. As Jenna takes in their pretty faces and long blond hair, her blood runs cold. Freya isn’t here: but each body looks shockingly like her…

Jenna soon links the victixms with an unsolved case where the killer attacked blonde-haired women in their homes and buried the bodies. She’s convinced it’s the same murderer, and seeing that he always takes three victims, she realises that two more women could be in serious danger…

Working around the clock, Jenna’s heart sinks when a beloved friend makes a terrifying call telling her there’s an intruder in her house. Begging her to hide, Jenna and Dave race to the woman’s house. But can they get there in time to stop another innocent life from being taken?

Truly gripping, fans of Lisa Regan, Melinda Leigh and Kendra Elliot will love this novel from USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling author D.K. Hood.

Another great Kane and Alton book

D. K. Hood did it again. I love the great imagination she has created in each and every book in this series. I finish one book and cannot stand to wait for the next book in the series. Keep them coming. ❤️📚📚📚

Good book overall

Liked the overall characters and plot - one thing I strongly dislike is the fake laugh used by the person who reads the audio books.

The storyline

I don’t like the narrator. I find her to be overdramatic and it distracts from the story.

Like this series and author

I really enjoy this series and author, but the narrator drives me nuts. There isn’t enough variation in her voice between characters. I wish I had more time to read and I would skip ever listening to these audiobooks. I will say this particular book I was disappointed that multiple male characters that I like downplayed women’s reactions and suspicions. The way Jenna handled it was also really disappointing. I did like that this books plot varied more than some of the others the first several books shared a close plot progression but the author has gotten better at making the books less predictable.

Interesting story

Have listened to the whole series. What concerns me is the backward evolution of Jenna and her ability to process after PTSD, and the Halloween related ghost stories. Dave having to be her rescuer every time is getting old – and when he says he’s going to stick by her side at every moment until this killer is caught – it’s a bit disconcerting when he consistently goes off and separates from her. It’s either one way or the other. She’s a good strong character and I think you are not doing her justice.

Ugh! Eye-roll. Nope pick another book.

I know going in that most of these books in the series are similar story lines but at this point 21 books in come on, give us at least a little new new. Also, I couldn’t even finish the book after Wendy was targeted and both Rio and Jake victim blame as well as not believing her even though their town is serial killer central! The author makes them out to be over the top deputies solving all these cases and then they go and do something like that? Not believable. She needs to stop rushing these books. Or move on completely. I said what I said.
