About this listen
World War I is coming to an end. France is in chaos. Will they survive to make it back home?
Will Dramer, a farmer from Tennessee, finds himself delivering a special package for the Allies--a live package--when he finds himself wounded during the Battle of the Bellau Woods and discovers a young French boy. Or is he a boy?
Anne Renshaw had to find her brother, Peter, but the only way to get into France was as a nurse or a Hello Girl. But she suddenly finds herself being trained as a spy. Can she locate him while on a mission? Will a wounded American and a baby compromise her search for her brother?
Thrown together during the turmoil of the famous Hundred Days Offensive, can Will and Anne make it to the end of the war alive and keep the special package safe? What will become of them after the war is over? Join them on their journey as they travel across France, get caught in battles, and meet up with famous people along the way. Throw in a wounded German soldier, and his sweetheart living in Paris to the mix, and watch all of them struggle to do what they know is right.
Excerpt from the book:
She cast her eyes around the area nervously. It had been a full hour since the last shrieks of shot had mercifully ceased, the smoke trailing through the rays creating a surreal atmosphere of a haunting dreamland. The sun was sending its last beams over the splintered trees as she lifted her face for the last bit of warmth. A faint groan reached her ears through the silence bringing her eyes back to the edge of the hole.
The arm strained again. Another groan, this time coming as more of a grunt from exertion. The elbow raised slightly over the edge of the dirt as the hand shifted its force down, the sleeve of a dark coat torn above the elbow showed above the hole. A head would be next and the face would be turned in Anne's direction. Was this a friend or foe?
"Help me, boy!" The strained voice jerked Anne's attention back to the hand at the edge of the hole. But it was no longer just a hand struggling for a grip. Light blue eyes stared at her through a chaos of mud-caked hair over the edge of the pit, pleading.
