About this listen

When You Reach Me meets Love Sugar Magic in this unforgettable middle grade novel where time travel, family recipes, and family secrets collide.

Maya’s grandmother, Halmunee, may be losing her memory, but there’s something almost magical about the way she cooks. Whether Halmunee serves salty miyeokguk or sweet songpyeon, her stories about Korea come to life for Maya.

Then one day, something extraordinary happens: a single delicious bite of patbingsu transports Maya and Halmunee back into one of Halmunee’s memories. Suddenly they’re in Seoul, and Halmunee is young.

This is just the first of many secrets Maya will uncover: that she and her grandmother can time-travel, and they aren’t the only ones with this ability. As Maya eats her way through the past, her questions multiply—until a shocking discovery transforms everything she thought she knew about family, friendship, loss, and time itself.

Brimming with heart and interspersed with seven family recipes that listeners can make themselves, this is a story to savor by rising Korean American author Flora Ahn.

Warning: If you have listened to The Golden Orchard, then you can skip this book. It's the same exact story and characters, but it's been padded with 2 hours of extra material that didn't really enhance the story. The only extra material I liked was the Korean recipes for the food they cook in the story.

I rated this audiobook so lowly because it seemed really deceptive to publish this book without letting readers know that it's not a prequel or sequel to The Golden Orchard, but the same exact story.

I loved The Golden Orchard and was excited to read more about these characters and expand on it's time travelling universe. I was very disappointed to hear the exact same story. I actually like the voice actor of The Golden Orchard better too.

In short, if you already listened to The Golden Orchard, then skip this book or read it in print for the recipes. If you've never read The Golden Orchard, then give this book a listen. It's pretty good, I'd rate it a solid 4 stars. Of course, you could also listen to The Golden Orchard. It maybe still be free in the audible plus catalog.

I'm returning this audiobook, but I hope the author writes a new book with new material about this time travelling universe.

This is same story as The Golden Orchard

This book is a repeat reading of "The Golden Orchard" by the same author. It even includes the same glitch repeat of one of the chapters. A good story, but a waste of an Audible credit.

Repeat Audible book? Different narrator.

I listened to the author's title, The Golden Orchard years ago and thought this was a sequel. But the author seems to have repackaged the exact same story with a new cover and title. I'm so confused. Rating it low because that's a weird thing to do, Audible!

Same exact story??
