Story
The kingdom of Cornucopia was once the happiest in the world. It had plenty of gold, a king with the finest moustache you could possibly imagine, and butchers, bakers, and cheesemongers whose exquisite foods made a person dance with delight when they ate them. Everything was perfect - except for the misty Marshlands to the north, which, according to legend, were home to the monstrous Ickabog. Anyone sensible knew that the Ickabog was just a myth to scare children into behaving. But the funny thing about myths is that sometimes they take on a life of their own.

Story
Anna Smith Strong (1790-1812) was a fearless woman who acted as a spy for George Washington during the Revolutionary War. Recruited by Washington’s spymaster, Major Benjamin Tallmadge, she joined the Culper Ring, a group of American spies. General Washington placed a huge amount of trust in his spies, and Anna helped pass him important messages at great risk to herself and her family. One of her cleverer devices was to hang laundry on the line in a planned fashion so that other spies could read the "message".

remarkable spy story of an enslaved american
A spine named James was a short listen, and worth listening too. Good for juveniles interested in learning more about the paradoxes of slavery amid America's struggle for its own independence. make sure to stay tuned for the notes at the end, which were arguably more informative than the story. like many tales of slavery, the available facts are in short supply, but the author did a good job regardless.
recommended for children ages 5-12 ready and interested to learn about unheralded patriots.
