يستل الكاتب التركي أورهان باموق عنوان روايته "غرابة في عقلي" من مقطع للشاعر الإنجليزي (وليام ووردزوورث)، يقول فيه "كان ثمة غرابة في عقلي وشعورلا يعود إلى ذلك الزمان ولا إلى ذلك المكان"، لينطلق منه إلى روايته التي تتغلغل في أزقة إسطنبول وبيوتها وتفاصيلها، ملتقطاً كثيراً من الأحداث وتداعياتها على الناس العاديين البسطاء الذين يعيشون على هامشها وضحاياها في الوقت نفسه.
تدور أحداث الرواية حول "مولود قره طاش"، الذي هاجر في طفولته مع والده من القرية إلى اسطنبول ليعين والده في العمل، يجد نفسه متعلقاً بأزقتها عاشقاً لها، ويستقر بداية في منطقة عشوائيات ومخالفات في بيت صغير. في العقود الأربعة ما بين 1969 و2012، عمل "مولود" في عدد من الوظائف المتنوعة في شوارع إسطنبول؛ من بيع الزبادي والأرز المطهو إلى حراسة موقف سيارات، ويدرس إلى جانب عمله. أثناء تأدية مولود لعمله، تنجلي له الكثير من الألغاز والأسرار بطريقة بسيطة من دون أن يقرر البحث عنها، يصادفها في طريقه، وهو يتجول حاملاً بضاعته متنقلاً بها في المدينة، يراقب الناس بمختلف أشكالهم وشخصياتهم وهم يمرون في الشوارع، ويشهد تدمير وإعادة بناء المدينة، ويرى المهاجرين من الأناضول وهم يصنعون الثروات.
يضع باموق بطله شاهداً معاصراً على الأحداث التي شهدتها تركيا عموماً، وإسطنبول خصوصاً، في تلك الفترة تراه يتابع أخبار الإنقلابات العسكرية عن بعد تارة، وتارة أخرى يكون في قلب الحدث، ويشهد التغيرات الكبيرة الحاصلة والجرائم التي اقترفها العسكر بحق البلاد والعباد.
تحاول رواية "غرابة في عقلي" الإجابة عن بعض الأسئلة، حيث يختار باموق أن يكون بطله بائع طعام سريحاً قادماً من قريته ذاهباً لأسطنبول، يتساءل دائمًا عما يميزہ عن الآخرين، وعن مصدر الغرابة التي تعشش في عقله، ويحاول أن يفهم من هي حبيبته، ماذا يهم أكثر في الحب: ما نتمنى، أم ما يخبئه لنا القدر؟ هل تفرض علينا اختياراتنا السعادة، أم التعاسة، أم أن كل هذہ الأشياء تحددها قوى أكبر منا؟ كما ترسم الرواية التوتر بين حياة الحضر وحياة الأسرة، وغضب النساء وعجزهن داخل بيوتهن.
