About this listen

Leaving everything and everyone he knew; Bo Skinner left the ranch which had been his home since birth to attend a college in central Texas on a football scholarship. He left his mother and his granddad along with one hired hand to run the ranch since his dad had suffered a stroke and was disabled. He found himself to be totally out of place and a misfit at a college inhabited by students, who for the most part, were from large cities. He was assigned a roommate who shared his frustration, being the first Black to play football at the college. They were part of a team that began the season with a 14-game losing streak and little hope for the future. Bo would learn first-hand that prejudice was not only prevalent but an accepted way of life at this time and together he and his roommate would struggle to gain acceptance.

Bo's life became more complicated when Lexie Warren, the daughter of a wealthy Dallas banker, asked him for a ride to New Mexico at the beginning of the Christmas holidays. Beautiful and spoiled beyond belief, Lexie is forced to spend nine days at the Skinner Ranch due to a blizzard they encountered on the way home. What occurred during the Christmas holidays created the greatest challenge in Bo's lifetime and greatly altered Lexie's view of life.
