About this listen
This metaphorical literary fiction novel delves into the inner lives of four soils as they confront the full impact of their earthly lives in transition from mortal existence to afterlife for eternity.
El the Creator sends shapeshifting angels called AIDENN to harvest these souls to judgment. To fulfill their missions, the celestial beings assume the forms of the favorite dogs of their targets: Blondi leads Adolf Hitler, Banga leads Pontius Pilate, Fido leads Abe Lincoln, and Chief leads Tom, an elderly man in a nursing home.
Once in the afterlife, the spirits follow their canine companions and relive pivotal moments that defined their lives. They discover that dark energy preserved their every action, word, and thought. As they time travel through their history, they are immersed in the action but are unable to have any effect. They see and feel the consequences of their choices, and witness firsthand how they shaped history.
The deadly sins of pride, greed, and envy join the story to thank the post-mortal consciousness of Hitler for taking their suggestions in bringing destruction to the Earth. They place him in a reeducation program where his spirit experiences the grief caused by his actions. Blondi leads Adolf through Kristallnacht, Dachau, and Babi Yar.
Banga leads Pilate back to the Praetorium to the trial of the King of the Jews. And afterward, he journeys with Verity the lumberjack through the Forest of Creeds to consider failed ideologies and to find the answer to the question: What is truth?
Abe Lincoln sees the consequences of having preserved the Union. Led by Fido and Major General John Reynolds, Abe travels back to Gettysburg, time travels to the future to experience the Battle of Omaha Beach, and sees life on Earth at the turn of the millennium.
Tom and Chief return to Tom's childhood for Tom to experience his life as a paperboy. In doing so, they see humanity’s virtues and faults in the lives of Tom and his customers.
